Comedian and LATE NIGHT host Seth Meyers recently shared how amazing it was to see wife Alexi Ashe deliver a commencement address — with their 3-year-old daughter Addie at her side.
“She just gave this commencement address at her high school,” Meyers said during an interview on THE HOWARD STERN SHOW, explaining that Addie, who was in the audience, was just getting over a cold.
Addie began to cry and, “The minute she sees Alexi walk in and her cap and gown, she’s like, reaching for her. And Alexi just says, ‘Just give her to me,” Meyers remembered. “She takes my daughter, walks up on stage, sits her in a chair next to her.”
“She just had this incredible balance of like, ‘I’m a professional woman, and now I’m gonna speak to my experiences in the world,’” Meyers said of his wife’s speech. “But also, ‘you never can stop being a mom, and so my daughter is gonna sit here.'”
The comedian called it “one of the coolest days” of his life, adding, “She was really funny, and she was really moving, and it was smart. And you could tell the kids were hanging on her every word.”
Meyers posted photos from the event on Instagram, writing, “So proud to watch @alexi crush her commencement address while also putting on a motherhood clinic without missing a beat. Our daughter was under the weather and not interested in being with anyone but her mom and instead of sending her home she let her join her on stage without ever losing her cool. And then to top it all off her niece just wandered to stage mid speech to chill behind the podium.”

Meyers and Ashe are also parents to sons Ashe, 9, and Axel, 7.
In addition to being a mom, Ashe is also a human rights attorney and works pro bono for Sanctuary for Families, an organization that provides support and advocates for survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking, and related crimes.
“My wife works at the Brooklyn D.A.’s office. She’s dealing in a far darker world than I am. And she manages to come home and still be bright-eyed and positive. So I have to do the same,” Meyers told Your Tango.
Ashe’s commencement speech is a wonderful example of the ways moms can balance — and prioritize — motherhood, even in their professional moments.
