Danny Gokey knows that sometime our prayers are not answered in the way we hope, but he has some encouragement for when that happens.

“‘Haven’t Seen It Yet,’ the inspiration was, what do you do when some promises haven’t come to pass?” he said in an Instagram post, referring to his song. “You can get discouraged, you can get down, or you can just rehearse the good things that God has done.”

Gokey explained how sometimes we have to remind ourselves of the good things God did in the past to get through rough moments. Psalm 77:11-12 supports this when it says, “I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”

“Sometimes you have to look back to see what God has done to keep your faith inspired, to keep moving forward,” the AMERICAN IDOL alum continued. “One of the things that I’ve learned in life is that sometimes we have a way that we think God should answer prayers.”

He believes that we need to “let go of is how we think God should answer prayers and be open to how He does things,” because He has our best interest in mind.

Gokey then encouraged listeners with the bridge of his song:

He is moving with a love so deep
Hallelujah for the victory
Good things are coming even when we can’t see
We can’t see it yet, but we believe that

“That allows faith to rise up and say, ‘God, you’re good. You’ve been good in the past. You don’t change,'” Gokey said.

He concluded, “You know, if you don’t keep faith, you start falling and struggling. I’ve been there too many times, you know? And God is the author of good.”

People in the comment section expressed their gratitude for the encouragement.

One fan wrote, “This is so true and so real. Thank you, Danny. Keeping our Faith alive and trusting God in everything.” Another person added, “A veryyy long story short, this song literally saved my life years ago — I could never be more thankful. 💗”

Gokey often speaks about the struggles he’s faced to encourage others. Last month he revealed his battle with severe OCD which began as a child.

“In my 30s, the weight became too much, and I had to tell my wife & manager that I dealt with debilitating OCD 🧼 Finally, my journey to healing could begin! 🙌 Everyone’s story is different, but no one should suffer in silence 🤐 Don’t be afraid to get help 🫂” he said in a past Instagram post.

Gokey’s reminder should encourage us that even if we struggle or things don’t go our way, God is working behind the scenes on our behalf.
