After an unprecedented focus on the Lord during their National Championship season last year, former Ohio State football players TreVeyon Henderson and Gee Scott bring their passion with them to New England.
“When I met Jesus, He filled me with the love that I’d been looking for in football and money and my family and women. He gave me the joy that I’d been searching for… He filled me with happiness that I was looking for,” Henderson told Sports Spectrum. “What my heart was craving, what my heart needed — Jesus. He filled me with it. He gave it to me.”
“I’m just going to continue to let Him guide me and work through me for His glory,” the athlete later added. “I want to continue to decrease. When people see me, I want them to see the Lord. I want them to see His power to save, to transform. I just want to let His light shine through me.”
Henderson and many of his teammates lived out this calling last year, bringing faith to their campus during an incredible run that resulted in the National Championship.
“Jesus changed my life, set me free from my sin, made me holy, made me righteous,” Henderson told his peers during a faith event in August 2024. “I’m only righteous because of what the Lord has done for me. It wasn’t anything I did, it was Jesus. It was Jesus. And He wants to do the same for you.”
Now that they have graduated and been drafted into the NFL, Henderson and his teammate Scott continue their good work for the Lord as New England Patriots rookies. Earlier this month, they hosted a youth football camp where they focused on faith while instructing on football.
“Smiles and Bibles. Former Ohio State and New England Patriot rookies TreVeyon Henderson and Gee Scott Jr. held a football camp for kids,” The Walk, a Christian organization they partnered with for the camp, posted on X.
The two players represent a growing number of professional athletes who are outspoken about their faith. In turn, this has inspired their fans to become open to faith, contributing to the rise in interest in the Lord among the younger generation. While celebrities and athletes have often represented the worst parts of society as they indulge in the debauchery afforded to them by fame and money, it is incredible to see a new generation rise up to use their platform for good.
