John Stamos might be best known as Jesse Katsopolis on FULL HOUSE, but being a dad to a now 7-year-old has changed what roles he chooses.

“As a parent, you’re always trying to impress your kid, and nothing I was doing was working,” Stamos told US Weekly. “He used to watch MICKEY MOUSE FUNHOUSE, so I just started asking around, ‘Can I do a voice on there?’”

Stamos shares son William “Billy” Christopher Stamos with his wife, Caitlin McHugh Stamos.

He added, “I did this salty Irish pirate on there, and he loved that. And then he started getting to Marvel, so I started doing more of the Marvel stuff. I just hit up all my friends at Disney and go, ‘Can I do some more voices, please?’”

He decided he wanted to “step up” for his son as he’s now in “the second or third quarter” of his career.

Stamos’ desire to make content his son could watch eventually landed him a role on Marvel’s IRON MAN AND HIS AWESOME  FRIENDS as Tony Stark’s dad, Howard.

“Howard, he’s always pulling dad jokes,” Stamos revealed. “Speaking of dad jokes, I consider myself a really good dad — last night was maybe one of my worst parenting moves ever.”

He explained, “We came back from Disneyland late, me and Billy, my son, and we were just so tired. I said, ‘Billy, brush your teeth.’ I got a toothbrush, and what I thought was toothpaste turned out to be anti-itch cream. He said he brushed and thought it was toothpaste, but it started to taste weirder and weirder.”

But despite parenting fumbles, Stamos is proud of his contributions to kids’ entertainment.

“Did somebody say Disney Jr. cinematic universe?? Oh, that was me,” he posted on Instagram last month. “Catch me as Howard Stark in Marvel’s IRON MAN AND HIS AWESOME  FRIENDS — Aug 11 on #DisneyJr, streaming next day on #DisneyPlus!”

Being a husband and a father keeps him sober, too.

“They have kept me on this path because going down the road of being sober and taking care of yourself, everybody tries. Everybody does it. You could get going for a little while. Then, it’s like, ‘I can drink again,'” he said previously. “So it’s staying on the path is what they mostly do for me.”

“At the end of the day, you don’t want a trophy and you don’t ‘win,’ you don’t get a ring,” Stamos added of fatherhood in 2021. “But if you do it right, you’ve raised a kid that’s loving enough, that’s smart enough, and that’s caring enough to be a better version of yourself. I get choked up thinking about it.”

It’s incredible to see Stamos put his son first, even in the role he picks up.
