Sports fans are thrilled the college football season is finally underway, but which athletes should you be watching?
Here is Movieguide®’s list for the top five Christian players to keep your eye on this season.
Cade Klubnik
Quarterback for the Clemson Tigers, Klubnik is in his fourth year and is expected to help bring Clemson back to the National Championship game this season.
In 2023, Klubnik expressed his gratitude for his platform in an interview with Sports Spectrum: “I’ve been given this platform, and I don’t want to put it to waste. I haven’t really done much to get to where I am now. It’s all just because of the Lord. So because of where I am, no matter what platform I’m using, I want to be able to use it to speak about God.”
Kyron Hudson
This Penn State transfer played his first three seasons at USC but is eager to get on the field and help the Nittany Lions make history this year.

When Hudson talked about why he wanted to transfer, he told the Sports Spectrum’s “What’s Up” podcast, “I just always had faith in my Lord and Savior…And I think that’s just going back to when I was a little kid and just giving Him all the glory, and just understanding that the plan He has for me is His plan and nothing’s better.”
Garrett Nussmeier
As a fifth-year quarterback, Nussmeier is ready to lead LSU’s football team for the second straight year. 2023 Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels pushed Nussmeier out of playing time his first few years, but he knew it wasn’t his time to leave LSU.
“God brought me to LSU for a reason,” Nussmeier told the press at the SEC Media Days in 2024. “I did not feel like it was my time to just pack up and leave. I felt like it was my duty to just keep my head down and trust in His timing and just work. I know God’s timing is always right.”
Caleb Downs
National Champion and unanimous All-American for the Ohio State Buckeyes, Downs is back for more in his third season with the team.
When talking with Access The Walk Ministry, the athlete explained why he wears No. 2 on his jersey.
“There’s two things that are more important than me, more important than me playing football,” Downs said. “My faith in Jesus Christ and my family. So those two things is what I wear on my chest every game, and those are the two most important things in my life.”
Chubba Purdy
As the brother of NFL quarterback Brock Purdy, Chubba has a lot to live up to. However, because of his faith in Christ, Chubba can handle the pressures of being the quarterback for Nevada.
“Ever since then, I’ve been a follower of Christ,” he said on the “Sports Spectrum” podcast in 2024. “It hasn’t been easy. The older you get, it’s super tough with the things the world has to offer. But, it’s been a huge blessing.”
