THE OFFICE actor Rainn Wilson called for everyone to think deeper about how to make connections with those they disagree with following the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
“There are really dangerous, tragic times. I wanted to address the recent assassination-slash-murder of Charlie Kirk,” Wilson said in a video posted on social media, per Fox News Digital. “I didn’t always agree with him, but this whole idea of ‘I’m going to kill someone that I disagree with’ is disgusting and dangerous, and our hearts go out to him, his soul, his wife, his kids, and all of his family and supporters. He was a courageous man, actually. He was unafraid to speak his truth, and would go often into hostile environments in order to do that. How many of us have that same courage?”
“A lot of people have been saying, ‘Hey, we need to bring the temperature down,’ and certainly that’s true in the short term. But we need to go deeper than that,” the actor continued. “We need to build bridges of love and unity, especially between those we disagree with. As Arthur Brooks says, we need to learn how to disagree better, and still know that we all love our country, and we all want to build a better tomorrow. We just have very different ideas of how to do that.”

Kirk was a political activist who worked to get the youth involved in politics through his organization Turning Point USA. Not only did this organization get millions more engaged in politics, but it also helped Kirk host events at colleges and universities where he would debate members of the audience about anything and everything.
Amazingly, Kirk was also a very outspoken Christian who brought Christ into his conversations at every opportunity. Thus, he helped his fans find a firm foundation in the Lord rather than things of this world that, while good, cannot satisfy our soul like God.
“Freedom is not sustainable if you remove religion,” Kirk said in 2022. “I’ll be even more specific, freedom is not sustainable if you remove Christianity. Eventually, it will implode. Eventually you will be ruled simply by your senses, you’ll be ruled simply by your consciousness.”

Can Americans have unity without God?
Tragically, Kirk was shot during an event on Sept. 10 and died shortly after. His death was announced to the public by President Donald Trump on Truth Social.
“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie,” President Trump wrote. “He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”
Kirk’s legacy has been touted by many actors who have been mourning his loss and reflecting on what his assassination means for our country. While many of these actors are strong Christians with conservative political beliefs, it is encouraging to see stars like Wilson also show reverence for Kirk despite disagreeing with his message.
