George Clooney and his wife Amal knew they didn’t want to raise their twins in Hollywood — and for good reason.
“Yeah, we’re very lucky. You know, we live on a farm in France,” he said in an interview with Esquire Magazine. “A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid I hated the whole idea of it. But now, for them, it’s like — they’re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life.”
Clooney explained how he was worried about Hollywood’s influence on his children.
“I was worried about raising our kids in LA, in the culture of Hollywood,” he admitted. “I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life. France — they kind of don’t give a *** about fame. I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.”

The Clooneys share two children, twins Alexander and Ella, who were born in June 2017. Fatherhood has changed his life for the better.
“In marriage, and now with the kids, you give away the selfishness of only looking out for yourself,” the actor previously told PEOPLE. “It’s a wonderful thing. Amal and I talk about it every day. We feel so lucky.”
He finds joy in discovering his children’s differences, even though they’re twins.
“When you have twins and you’re raising [them] the same time, the same way, and they’re completely different human beings, you realize how little say you have in who they are. They come out with an opinion, and it’s amazing to watch how different my kids’ personalities are,” he explained.
Clooney joins a long list of Hollywood celebs who ditched the glitz and glamor of Hollywood for the sake of their kids.
Actor Josh Duhamel believes a slow lifestyle is best for his children, and he and his family spend much of their time at a homestead in northern Minnesota.
“It’s so back to the basics,” Duhamel said this summer. “We get so accustomed to all these luxuries and these amenities that we have … and I think that’s what this is for me — it’s an opportunity to get back to the basics and really enjoy the simple things in life, and that’s family, that’s friends, that’s making memories.”
Celebrities like Clooney and Duhamel remind us what really matters in life — the quiet and quality moments with family.
