This revival is also taking place in the UK. Premier Christian News reported “The Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge (SPCK) has noted an 87% increase in purchases of the Bible between 2019 and 2024. Nielsen Book Data records a jump from £2.69 million to £5.02 million spent on copies in the last five years.”
“Spending on religious books in total last year measured £25.2 million, up 3 per cent year-on-year,” a spokeswoman for Nielsen Book Data shared.
The Bible Society’s Mark Woods told The Times that many of these sales come from “young people buying the Bible themselves, or parents buying for their children,” as well as “churches buying it for their youth group or their local school.”
“Either way, there’s a very clear increase in demand. This seems to arise from a perception that the Bible has something important to say to young people, and from a desire to make it accessible to them,” he continued.
Christian music is also on the rise, with many artists enjoying massive success with audiences all over the world.
“This is the most exciting time to be in Christian music,” Holly Zabka, president of Provident, Sony’s Christian music subsidiary, told NPR. “I don’t think we’ve ever been in this season of opportunity.”
Zabka explained that she and her team feel “a responsibility to grow the genre” in ways that are both commercially and spiritually motivated.
“A lot of times that means pushing the boundaries, being as innovative as we possibly can, while making sure that we’re making music that still feels authentic to our genre, but not being scared to take our music into other spaces,” she said.
Zabka also shared her own explanation for why Gen Z are being drawn towards Christian music, saying, “So many of them struggle with depression, and what they are finding in Christian music is another way to deal with things that [give] them greater meaning in what they’re walking through.”
From Christian movies and TV shows to music, books and apps, it looks like people around the world are ready for revival!
