More Detail:

IT’S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN is a classic animated Halloween Peanuts special streaming on Apple TV+ that’s been entertaining children since its initial 1966 release. The special features Charlie Brown and his group of friends as they enjoy the holiday. The special centers on Linus and his obsession with the Great Pumpkin – a Halloween version of Santa Claus who brings toys to all the good children – which causes him to miss out on the fun and games. Meanwhile, the rest of the crew goes trick-or-treating before attending a Halloween party.

The special is exceptionally well-made and very entertaining, with multiple iconic scenes throughout its short runtime. The story is funny for audiences of all ages and features heartwarming moments alongside laughs.

IT’S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN features many short, fun moments interspersed throughout the overarching story, such as Linus and Lucy picking out a pumpkin to carve, and Linus jumping into a pile of leaves that Charlie Brown just finished raking. The meat of the story, however, comes with the introduction of the idea of the Great Pumpkin. Much like one would do for Santa during December, Linus begins writing a letter to the Great Pumpkin to tell him how good he has been this year and asks for presents. However, as he is doing, his friends and family come up to him and laugh at him. Linus, however, defends himself and continues to believe in the Great Pumpkin.

As Halloween starts, Linus heads to the pumpkin patch, so he will be there when the Great Pumpkin emerges. Meanwhile, the rest of the gang creates costumes and heads out. They stop by the pumpkin patch to see if Linus will join them, but he refuses to leave and also convinces Sally to stay with him as well. From there, the gang goes trick-or-treating, and Lucy asks for extra candy for her brother, while Charlie Brown only seems to receive rocks.

While the trick or treating occurs, Snoopy sneaks off to his doghouse to pretend to be a WWI fighter pilot. After taking off, he receives heavy fire and gets into a firefight that riddles his doghouse with bullets. Eventually, it becomes too much, and he crashes behind enemy lines. The rest of the special, he is sneaking around trying to return home. Snoopy ends up crashing into the Halloween party, which Charlie Brown and the gang have since transitioned to.

Snoopy is discovered when Lucy goes to bob for apples and comes up with him instead, causing him to flee the house and end up in the pumpkin patch. Linus and Sally mistake his rustling as the Great Pumpkin, and as Snoopy rises out of the patch, Linus faints, believing his greatest wish to meet the Great Pumpkin is coming true. Sally, however, sees what is really going on and throws a fit when she realizes their stakeout was for naught. She storms away, leaving Linus alone again.

The night ends, and everyone returns home, except for Linus, who remains in the pumpkin patch, insistent on seeing the Great Pumpkin. The next morning at four A.M., Lucy wakes up to bring Linus inside, away from the cold. Finally, the next day, Linus and Charlie Brown reflect on the holiday and how another Halloween has come and gone.
