Jelly Roll shared just how much his life has changed, highlighting how he used to do drugs on his birthday and now he is going for a run.

“It’s my 41st birthday y’all. And I’m not just saying that because I want birthday presents. I’m saying it because I used to do cocaine on my birthday. I used to do codeine and pills on my birthday. Now on my birthday, one of my best friends with me as I go for a…run, baby,” Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason DeFord, said in the middle of a run. “Me and Cam Hanes getting these miles in this morning, baby. That’s what God can do for you in a couple years. That’s what God can do. If you didn’t enjoy your birthday this year, you can change it by next year, baby. I promise you can.”

Before finding Christ, DeFord’s entire life revolved around drugs, and he was constantly in and out of prison for either using drugs or selling them. Through the grace of God, however, he has found freedom and turned from his criminal life. Now that he is on the other side, DeFord focuses on encouraging those who are in the place he once was to follow in his footsteps and choose to live a life free of substance abuse.

In October, DeFord announced a plan to open a 100-acre rehab facility to aid people looking to get drug free.

“But see, I’m here, and I came here today to pray over it. I came here today to vision cast in it,” DeFord shared in an Instagram video where he announced the project. “I came here today to just walk barefoot in it. And most important, I came here today to pull this phone out of my pocket and look y’all in the eye and say, Thank you, man. I never would have dreamed that this could have been anything about my story. This is not what I expected.

“I say it all the time, people are like, did you ever dream you’d be playing arenas? I was never brave enough to dream that I would be here like this today. And thank you all for the success of beautifully broken, thank you all for just changing my life” he continued. “Man, generational curses were broke because of y’all. I’m standing on it. I am standing here breaking a generational curse right now, and I hope that inspires me all to do the same thing.”

It is truly amazing to see DeFord’s life continue down the straight and narrow and how he is using his past to encourage others to find the Lord, rather than continue down the path of destruction.
