Miami Dolphins quarterback Quinn Ewers showed the league that he can hang with the big dogs in Sunday’s win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

After the game, the rookie spoke about his first professional win and how that moment was a “reason he picked up a football in the beginning.”

“You know, shout out to the boys on defense, man. They came up big for us in late situations, and it’s a great team win. You know, it feels good for the first one, no doubt, no doubt, my boy,” he told NFL ON FOX.

“I think I just let the game come to me. I already had a game under my belt, and I just stayed calm, collected,” Ewers described his play on the field. “I got a great group of guys around me that have confidence in me that I’m gonna go get the job done, and I have confidence in them that they’re gonna go do the job.”

“But I think that it all boils back down to where my foundation is, and my foundation in Jesus Christ allows me to just remain level in every situation because at the end of the day, you know, we’re human beings,” he declared. “We’re seen as football players, but at the end of the day, we’re going to wake up tomorrow. Our family is still going to love us. The people that matter are still going to love us.”

The former Texas longhorns quarterback has always been vocal about his in faith in God.

“Adversity is going to strike, and at the end of the day, it’s how you come back and how you respond,” Ewers said after he led Texas to a win last year. “It’s 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react. So I just lean on Jesus, and He just continues and continues to [pull] me through adverse times.”

Ewers has also talked about how much God plays into his daily life.

“The lessons that I’ve learned and that He’s taught me,” he said on the “RG3 and The Ones” podcast. “From going to Ohio State, and just everything that happened to me up there, I kind of got away from my relationship with God when I was up there. I wasn’t leaning on Him as much as I should. And then me coming back down here [to Texas], it’s like my faith kind of exploded. It grew a whole bunch just being closer to home.”

Although the Dolphins are unable to make the playoffs, Ewers looks to add another victory to his stat sheet next week against the New England Patriots.
