Texas QB Quinn Ewers Slides Texas to No. 1: ‘I Just Lean on Jesus’

Over the weekend, the Texas Longhorns football team beat the Oklahoma Sooners in a 34-3 crushing victory that moved the Longhorns into the number 1 ranked spot among all college football teams.

A big part of Texas’ victory is redshirt junior quarter, Quinn Ewers, who made his first appearance back after missing two games due to an injury.

Per Sports Spectrum, “Ewers completed 20 of 29 passing attempts for 199 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Sooners, a game held at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas as per tradition. He also rushed four times for three yards and added another score on the ground.”

When Ewers was sidelined due to an injury the highly anticipated Arch Manning was hit replacement. Manning came in as the back-up and did exactly what he needed to do which caused many people to question whether or not Manning should remain the starting quarterback.

However, head coach Steve Sarkisian made it very clear that Ewers will remain the Texas starter when he returns healthy.

Ewers proved himself in his return and even after he faced an early interception, Ewers turned the page and brought home a win for the Longhorns.

After the game Ewers told ESPN’s Holly Rowe, “Adversity is going to strike and at the end of the day, it’s how you come back and how you respond. It’s 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react. So I just lean on Jesus, and He just continues and continues to [pull] me through adverse times.”

Ewers does not shy away about sharing his faith. When he made an appearance on Robert Griffin III “RG3 and The Ones,” podcast, Ewers spoke about God’s plan for his life.

“The lessons that I’ve learned and that He’s taught me,” Ewers said on the show. “From going to Ohio State, and just everything that happened to me up there, I kind of got away from my relationship with God when I was up there. I wasn’t leaning on Him as much as I should.

“And then me coming back down here [to Texas], it’s like my faith kind of exploded. It grew a whole bunch just being closer to home,” Ewers added.

Movieguide® previously reported of Ewers faith:

University of Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers led his team in a recent upset victory over Alabama, the third-ranked team in the nation.

ESPN reported that Ewers passed “for 349 yards and three touchdowns to lead No. 11 Texas to a 34-24 victory over third-ranked Alabama on Saturday night in a huge win for a program trying to climb back to its old level of prominence nationally.”

ESPN broadcaster Holly Rowe spoke to Ewers after the game and asked him how his sacrifice and discipline helped lead the team to a win.

“We knew this whole week if we came in here, we were going to ball out. We were going to try to make them quit,” Ewers expressed. “God is so good. I can’t say that enough, how much God has put me through. He’s made me so strong. I’m so proud of my team, our defense, we balled out. I’m fired up for the rest of the way.”
