Nintendo just dropped a new trailer and more exciting details about the upcoming THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE.
During a Nintendo Direct event on Jan. 25, 2026, the company revealed the new trailer, introduced characters and confirmed updates about the movie’s release.
During a Nintendo Direct event on Jan. 25, 2026, hosted by Mario creator Shigeru Miyamot, the new trailer revealed Yoshi, whose appearance was teased in 2023’s THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE. The trailer also highlighted Birdo, who “is shown angrily firing eggs at Peach.”
Decider explained, “The pairing isn’t accidental. Birdo and Mouser both debuted in Super Mario Bros. 2, which was set in the dream world of Subcon. The sequence raises an intriguing question: Is Peach tackling her own side quest early in the movie while Mario and Luigi explore the Sand Kingdom?”

Another exciting update? GALAXY’s release date has been moved up. Originally set to hit theaters April 3, it will now debut April 1. It will arrive in Japan several weeks later, on April 24.
All of the original MARIO BROS. stars will reprise their roles. This includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. Newcomers Bennie Safdie (Bowser Jr.) and Brie Larson (Rosalina) join the cast, as well as Yoshi, whose casting hasn’t been revealed yet.
The movie comes from Nintendo and Illumination Studios.
While fans haven’t gotten an official plot summary yet, Nerdist suggests that GALAXY “appears to pit Mario and Luigi — as well as Princess Peach, Toad, and other heroes — against Bowser Jr. We also know, like the games, the action will take the characters to different planets with specific biomes and meet Princess Rosalina and her starlike subjects, the Lumas.”
Movieguide® rated GALAXY’s predecessor, THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE, highly, giving it a Teddy Bear Award® in 2024.
The review reads, “THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE (2023) has a strong moral message about brotherhood, sacrifice, and working together to overcome evil. The movie has breathtaking animation that honors its iconic source material while breathing new life into the large cast of characters from both Mario video games and other Nintendo games of the same universe.”
Movieguide® explains, “For Mario and Luigi, love for one another helps them overcome their deepest fears and stand up against Bowser and his army of Koopas, Goombas, and Piranha Plants. Due to some intense animated action/violence, Movieguide® advises caution for younger children.”
These movies mark yet another success for Mario. The character recently celebrated his 40th anniversary. The famous Nintendo character debuted in 1981 in the video game “Donkey Kong.” On Sept. 13, 1985, he starred in his own game, “Super Mario Bros.” and has been a mainstay in the video game world ever since.
We can’t wait to see how THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE continues Mario and his friends’ story.
