Kathie Lee Gifford is outspoken about her faith, but the former TV host recently explained why she considers herself “anti-religion.”
“The Bible talks about prayer without ceasing. Our life should be nonstop prayer, nonstop conversation, dialog and walk with our Lord,” she told Fox News. “It’s not a religion. I am very anti-religion. Religion puts people in chains and Jesus takes them away. So I’ve always tried to be, and I am, the exact same person.”
Gifford explained that she doesn’t “separate the secular from the spiritual” and thinks of her life as “all one life, lived in accordance with God’s blessing…His teaching, His guidance.”
“Scripture says ‘Don’t worry about anything. Don’t worry about anything. I am with you. I will lead you. I will guide you every day of your life,’” she continued. “In Him we live and move and have our very being. That means every nanosecond of our lives is in service to our Lord. So I lose sleep because I’m old. Not because I’m worrying about getting something wrong. I pray before I open my mouth, and then I ask the Lord to guide me.”

Gifford added, “People go, I can’t believe how bold you are for your faith. I don’t care what people think. I care what He thinks. And a few hands, like maybe two hands full of precious friends who love me. I care what they think.”
The former TODAY show host often speaks about the important role her Christian faith plays in her life.
“I’ve always had purpose in my life,” she told Fox News in a 2025 interview. “I’ve tried to be a believer in Almighty God, and if I wake up every morning — that means I’ve got a pulse. That means He’s got a purpose for me. And that’s what I try to do: listen to His voice, figure out what that purpose is, and go about it holding His hand. And not getting ahead of Him because I can’t do it without Him.”
Gifford continued, “I can’t breathe without Him, and never had a day in my life when I thought I could.”
She also shares her faith through her work, most recently, in her latest book, Nero & Paul: How the Gospel of Grace Defeated the Ruler of Rome.
“Every decision we make has the power to shape our world,” Gifford wrote in an Instagram post. “The story of Nero and Paul illustrates this truth in a profound way. One man, driven by selfish ambition, brought immense harm to those around him. The other, guided by selfless faith, made choices that spread the gospel of Jesus to millions. Their legacies couldn’t be more different. This is a powerful reminder that our choices matter, not just for ourselves, but for generations to come.”
