Kelsey Grammer discussed the impact being a conservative in Hollywood has and how staying true to his beliefs has cost him many relationships.

“I realize that because I’m conservative, I’ve been conservative for a long time in Hollywood, and I’ve heard a lot of things said about us, I hear a lot of things said about us, that are quite remarkable, but something I finally figured out was when I’m called racist, I know it’s not true. And the thing is, so do they,” Grammar said during an appearance on Raymond Arroyo’s podcast.

Unfortunately, even if the people who paint actors like Grammer in a bad light know they are not being truthful, these accusations greatly impact their careers. There are countless stories of conservatives being blacklisted, or limited in their roles, by Hollywood despite their acting talent, simply for the beliefs they hold.

THE LAST RODEO’s Neal McDonough, for example, was cast out of Hollywood for years after he implemented a no kissing rule in order to honor his wife and uphold the sanctity of his marriage.

“We all know that I kind of went through troubles years back because I won’t kiss another woman on screen,” McDonough told Fox Business in 2024. “At the time it was painful. I didn’t work for two years; I lost everything, house, cars and this and that. It was one of the most brutal times in my life.”

“I am very religious. I put God and family first, and me second. That’s what I live by. It was hard for a few years,” he added.

While being a conservative in Hollywood is still challenging, the industry has begun to transform in recent years, largely due to the success of Christian content, which is drawing Christian actors and executives to the industry. Grammar has seen the impact of this himself, as his fellow actors are more willing to find common ground with him, rather than write him off because they know he is a conservative.

SHAZAM! actor Zachary Levi had a similar experience to Grammer as he became more outspoken about his beliefs in recent years.

“I might go so far as to say I was graylisted, I guess,” Levi told Fox News Digital. “I’m still getting jobs, and I’m still grateful – very grateful – to be working. And I still have a lot of friends in the industry, people who still want to work with me.”

“There’s definitely been a lot of blowback and pushback. There are people in the industry who don’t want to work with me – because I had the audacity to say I didn’t think Kamala Harris was the right choice in our last election and because I called corporations like Pfizer to account…” he added. “I am pro-science. I am pro-health. I am pro-human. I’m a libertarian, I’m not even conservative.”

While it is disheartening to see just how anti-conservative Hollywood can be, it is encouraging that this sentiment has begun to change and actors who are openly conservative can still land roles in major movies.
