THE CHOSEN’s Jonathon Roumie loved his refreshing role in SOLO MIO.

“Kevin James asked me to do the film. That was my first like, okay, well then…I know it’s going to be good,” Roumie told Movieguide® of why he wanted to be a part of the movie, “and then I then I met the directors, and they told me what the story was, and I thought of course like, ‘How would I not do this movie?’ And they just gave me so much license with the character to help them like speak into who he was and what he did and how he got to where he is, and we just had a blast making it.”

Roumie plays Neil, a therapist who loves to help people.

“And so he sees [James’ character] Matt Taylor as somebody who is in need,” Roumie explained of his character. “They’re all on this honeymoon package together in Rome…and, uh, craziness ensues.”

“It was a lovely change of pace for me,” Roumie told EWTN News. “It was nice to play a character that is not shouldering the weight of the world.”

A fun thing for Roumie, and the audience, is that he sings in the movie.

When asked what his favorite karaoke song is, he said, “Whenever I’m shooting on THE CHOSEN, if we have some downtime, occasionally we’ll, you know, as a cast we’ll go…out on a weekend and do karaoke, and somehow I end up singing ‘Bohemian Rapsody’ with a couple of other cast members and some crew and doing some of the harmony parts.”

“And I used to sing in a in a band…I still don’t understand why I keep getting up whenever that song comes on for karaoke, but I still go. I still show up. So, I guess I must like it on some level,” he laughed.

He hopes audiences walk away from SOLO MIO with the feeling that they aren’t too old for a breakthrough or love in their life.

“I think if you have faith and if you keep seeking that thing, I think you shall find it and the other is that movies need to be seen in theaters in cinemas,” he explained. “This is the kind of a film that nobody’s making.”

He explained that romcoms especially aren’t being played in theaters, even though people love them.

“Angel has done a phenomenal job bringing this into theaters for the world to [music] see because that’s where this belongs. I mean just the fact that Italy was our backdrop, the vistas and the views are stunning. It’s the kind of a story that everybody like on the widest range of ages can see.”

Part of Movieguide®’s review for the movie says, “SOLO MIO is a heartwarming, quirky adventure in beautiful Italian settings. As Matt, Kevin James offers a genuine performance with hilarious, odd supporting characters…It reminds viewers that real love isn’t perfect and pushes people to be better.
