Netflix released a first-look trailer for LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE, giving fans a preview of the upcoming series based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s beloved books.

“Once upon a time, Ma and Pa and Mary and Laura left the Big Wood of Wisconsin and moved to the prairie where a new life was waiting for them,” the teaser says. “Every day and every night was an adventure. And even though they were all alone and very small against the sky and stars…they were happy because they were a family and they were together.”

Netflix first announced the show last year, highlighting how the original show from the 1970s has captured the hearts and imaginations of viewers for decades – a legacy this new show hopes to build upon.

“LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE has captured the hearts and imaginations of so many fans around the world, and we’re excited to share its enduring themes of hope and optimism with a fresh take on this iconic story,” said Jinny Howe, the vice president of drama series for Netflix when the reboot was first announced. “[Showrunner] Rebecca [Sonnenshine]’s vision threads the needle with an emotional depth that will delight both new and existing fans of this beloved classic.”

“[The show will be] part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West,” Netflix added in a statement. “[each episode will offer a] kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier.”

Excitement for the reboot built following cast announcements last year.

Alice Halsey stars as Laura Ingalls, with Luke Bracey as Charles ‘Pa’ Ingalls, Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline ‘Ma’ and Skywalker Hughes as Mary Ingalls.

Jocko Sims will play Dr. George Tann, Ryan Robbins will play Russell Kind, Rebecca Amzallag will star as Lacey Aubert and Maclean Fish will play Adam Scott.

“Picking up a stethoscope once again! I’m honored to step into shoes of the real-life Dr. George Tann, the black doctor and pioneer who saved the lives of the Ingalls family during their journey,” Sims shared after he joined the cast of the show. “Thank you to @Netflix and @CBStvStudios for bringing his story to the screen! Now, off to cowboy camp! 🤠👨🏾‍⚕️🐴”

The Netflix reboot has gigantic shoes to fill given the long-lasting legacy and popularity of the original. But, if it remains true to the family-friendly values and strong morals that made LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE so popular, it should have no trouble connecting with its audience.
