This Singer’s Go-To App Isn’t What You Might Think

Singer Raye has a favorite app on her phone, and it isn’t Instagram — it’s the Bible app.

The British singer recently said she’s taking a step back from social media, The Christian Post reported.

She said, “I think since I’ve come offline, it’s been much better. Ignorance is bliss.”

“If someone said I look awful in a dress, it’d make me sad. If I don’t know someone said I look awful in a dress…So, I’m really [big] on being offline,” Raye said.

But she does keep one app around — the Bible app.

After years of hard work, she’s at the point where she feels she can prioritize balance instead of constantly performing and producing.

Unlike Instagram, the Bible is steady and unchanging. It provides solid guidance that’s not influenced by anything, and Raye is wise to turn to it instead.

Raye, who has struggled with suicidal thoughts, credits her faith for keeping her alive.

“There’s a world in which, if I didn’t find faith again, I might not even be here,” she told the BBC. “There’s a lot of demons trying to claw at you and drag you to somewhere you don’t belong, so I’m really grateful I have this faith. It’s honestly pulled me out of a really dark place.”

“I was raised in a Christian household, and I think I had quite a difficult relationship with it all in the early days,” she shared. “But there was a moment where I really found God, in the time that I really needed it, and it saved my life…I really owe my life to my faith, it’s kept me going and it’s kept me okay, it’s given me strength.”

One of the virtues she holds dear is forgiveness — not easy as a sexual assault victim and woman abused in the music industry — but she chooses it anyway.

She admitted, “If I didn’t learn how to forgive, I would be a really ugly, bitter person.”

Though some of her music talks about faith, it’s not appropriate for all listeners.

In her 2022 song, “Hard Out Here,” she sings:

What you know about systems?

About drugged drinks…nearly dying from addictions?

You start to wonder why I’m Christian.

Without the Lord, I’d take my life all the times I’ve been a victim.

Oh, no weapon formed against me shall ever prosper.

The singer has Psalm 91 tattooed on her arm.

She said, “It’s a protection prayer. Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Whenever you’re scared or feel unsafe, any negative energy comes to you or whatever, I’ll pray this prayer. It’s an important one for me.”

It’s great that Raye chooses to make her faith important and has recently prioritized time with God.
