This episode of GOT IT FROM MY MOMMA has a strong Christian worldview, with the guest referring to her family jokingly as the “Christianiest Christians”. She speaks about how Nate is a Christian who does clean comedy rather than a Christian comedian, which allows him to bring Christian influence into worldly spaces. However, Nate’s Father is a magician by trade, but as stated by the Fellowship of Christian Magicians, Christian magicians are illusionists. They do not claim to use any supernatural means and “advance the art of magic and other performing arts, from a Gospel point of view.” Because of the constant mention of magic, a questionable element, MOVIEGUIDE® advises media wisdom for parents of young children.

GOT IT FROM MY MOMMA is an interview-style podcast series on UPtv, hosted by Jennifer Vickery Smith. Our host meets with the “mommas” of popular entertainers to thoughtfully discuss the artists’ formative years and family structures from a mothers’s perspective. The series highlights how a faith-filled upbringing can profoundly influence an individual’s journey and success.

In Episode 205, we meet Carol Bargatze, the mother of comedian, actor, producer, director, and New York Times bestselling author, Nate Bargatze. Diving into her son’s career, Carol reflects on the long road to success, acknowledging both the contributions of Nate’s father, who was also a performer, and the sovereignty of our heavenly Father.

She shares that Nate was not an overnight success and that she and her husband supported him for 20+ years as he chased his dreams. Ultimately, through a steadfast faith and trusting that “God has the best plan,” Carol and her family are a beautiful testament to Galatians 6:9: “Let us not become weary in well doing, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

The interview is very well-paced, and the host does an amazing job of guiding the conversation while allowing her guest to sit in tender moments without interruption. The beautiful home where the interview takes place enhances the viewing experience. It also provides an intimate space that seems to help the guest feel comfortable being a bit more vulnerable.

However, the production’s audio quality was distracting. There are random moments when the volume fluctuates, and because the guest was sitting a bit too far from the microphone, the host is clearly audible, but the guest’s voice is sometimes faint. The production team talks behind the camera during the interview. Despite these audio flaws, the overall program impresses.
