Kirk Cameron sang Nashville’s praises in a recent podcast interview.

“When you’re a kid in California, it’s great because your parents are paying for everything,” he explained to Adam Carolla on his podcast Tuesday. “So, you go to the beach, you’re hanging out, you’re going snow skiing, you get to eat an In-N-Out burger, you get to get some, you know, hot dogs downtown in Hollywood. It’s great.”

When he had his own kids, he realized how expensive it is.

“They realize how terrible the politics are and all of the other things that make it difficult to raise a family there,” Cameron said. “And so all of a sudden it’s like, ‘Oh my gosh, we gotta move. We gotta go someplace where we can actually thrive and maybe even just survive.’”

Despite that, the actor admitted that California does have a lot to offer.

But people are “coming from New York and California like crazy to Tennessee, especially this middle Tennessee Nashville area. It’s pretty cool,” he said.

The Teddy Bear Award® recipient loves the Nashville community, too, which is full of people with “good values.”

“Certainly there’s the concerns of politics and crime and the economy, but…I’m finding California refugees all over Tennessee and Texas and Florida and places like this,” the actor said on Fox News in 2024. “There’s been a flood of talent and creatives who have left California. They’re frustrated that their values are not being represented in the projects that they’re working on.”

Nashville has become the Hollywood of the South. People there create content that represents wholesome values.

“Nashville has become a hub for Christian projects like the ones that I’m working on with other fellow California escapees,” Cameron said at the time.

Many other entertainers have made the move to Tennessee, including Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Kimberley Williams-Paisley, Ariel Winter and Kristin Chenoweth, Yahoo! Entertainment reported.

Cameron’s celebrity sister, Candace Cameron Bure, also left LA in recent years.

“Not everyone in Hollywood lives behind guard gates,” the actress told Fox News. “We weren’t behind gates, and we’ve had quite a few problems over the years with people, just, cameras and hiding, and people just coming up to our door.”

“Some of it is innocent, some of it wasn’t,” she continued. “But it’s quite unnerving when you’re just trying to be a person and live life, and you don’t know what’s around the corner.”

For people like Cameron, Tennessee represents a place where faith, family and creativity can thrive.
