"Guard Your Heart"

Watch:

What You Need To Know:

THE DOUBLE HOUR is an involving mystery thriller from Italy. Security guard Guido meets a hotel maid, Sonia, at a ‘speed dating’ event. The two hit it off enough to have a one-night stand, and, after some problems, travel to a romantic getaway at a mansion owned by one of Guido’s clients. While there, however, masked armed robbers break in, attack the couple and shoot Guido, leaving Sonia believing she’s alone again. Then, Sonia starts seeing Guido in surveillance footage at her hotel. Eventually, she finds him hiding out from a mysterious problem. Yet, the twists don’t end there, as the two lovers rekindle their relationship and Guido – a widower – starts to believe he’s found true love again. Thus, in another series of twists, it becomes clear Sonia’s not as innocent as she appears.

DOUBLE HOUR is a moody, engaging, well-written, character-based thriller with solid performances that make the audience care about the lead characters. This makes the movie’s plot twists even more shocking. DOUBLE HOUR has two sex scenes with nudity, brief drug use and some strong foul language, however, so extreme caution is advised, even for older adults.

THE DOUBLE HOUR is a cool, slow-building yet utterly involving Italian thriller that expertly mines tension from a Hitchcock-worthy situation. There’s some adult content, however, so extreme caution is advised.

In the story, a security guard and hotel maid meet at a “speed dating” session and seem to instantly spark, starting a relationship that gradually is revealed to be built on lies. Security guard Guido meets a hotel maid, Sonia, at the ‘speed dating’ event. The two hit it off enough to have a one-night stand, after which he makes her leave his apartment. Yet Guido’s guilt-ridden, so he contacts Sonia again and starts fresh with what appears to be a relationship built on genuine affection.

When the couple goes away to a romantic getaway in the countryside at a mansion owned by one of Guido’s clients, masked armed robbers break in and attack the couple and shoot Guido, leaving Sonia believing she’s alone again. Then she starts seeing Guido in surveillance footage at her hotel, or believes she sees him out in public, only to find no actual evidence. She starts believing she’s crazy, until she follows what she believes to be his car and finds him hiding out from a mysterious problem.

Yet, the twists don’t end there, as the two lovers rekindle their relationship and Guido – a widower – starts to believe he has found true love again. Yet, in a series of twists, as a suspicious police officer keeps asking Sonia how Guido was killed, it becomes clear she’s not as innocent as she appears. [SPOILERS ALERT] Ultimately, it’s revealed Sonia targeted Guido for seduction because of his security job and she has flown to Buenos Aires with one of the masked robbers, along with their ill-gotten gains. Thus, Guido has to return to the speed-dating scene and start his search for love all over again.

DOUBLE HOUR is a moody, engaging, well-written, character-based thriller with solid performances that make you care about the lead characters. This makes the plot twists even more shocking. The movie has two sex scenes with nudity, however, some strong foul language and brief marijuana use, so extreme caution is advised, even for older adults.

The movie presents a worldview in which deception overrides genuine emotions, but this provides a subtle lesson in the need to guard one’s heart in relationships. DOUBLE HOUR is a thriller that leaves you wondering which side the characters are really on, right until the finale.
