3 Things to Know About the Faith-Based Movie OVERCOMER

By Tess Farrand, Associate Content Editor

Faith-based movie OVERCOMER hits theaters on August 23, 2019. As your anticipation builds, we thought we’d share some things to know about the upcoming movie:

  1. You might recognize some familiar faces

If you’ve seen any of the Kendrick Brothers’ movies, then you’ll definitely recognize one of the lead actors. Alex Kendrick, who also serves as director of the project, stars as John Harrison, the basketball coach turned cross-country coach in the movie. Christian actress Shari Rigby (THE LEAST OF THESE: THE GRAHAM STAINES STORY) plays John’s wife. For fans of the faith-based movie WAR ROOM, Priscilla Shirer stars in this Kendrick Brothers’ project as the principal of a private Christian school.

2. Get ready to hear the gospel

OVERCOMER doesn’t shy away from proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ! We won’t give away any spoilers but be prepared to be impressed with how many times characters in the movie talk about finding faith in the Lord and sharing it with others!

3. It’s a family affair

Not only are the themes of family prevalent in the movie, but the production was full of family too! Alex Kendrick shared via Instagram that his two sons were a part of the production experience. His oldest son, Joshua, worked with the camera crew and his youngest son, Caleb, plays his son in the movie! Not to mention the fact that Alex co-wrote the movie with his brother Stephen, who has a few cameos throughout!
