49ers WR Scores First NFL TD Months After Being Shot: ‘Presence of God’
By Movieguide® Contributor
A little over two months ago, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest and didn’t know if he’d ever return to the field again.
“Pearsall, a first-round pick in April’s NFL Draft, was shot on Aug. 31 during an attempted robbery while shopping near Union Square in San Francisco. The gunshot wound to the right side of his chest healed quickly after the incident. The 49ers repeatedly referred to the shooting as miraculous considering the bullet passed through his body without striking any vital organs or even a rib. Pearsall was released from the hospital a day after the incident and stopped by the team facility two days later,” the New York Times reported.

On Sunday, his NFL dreams became reality.
“Pearsall overcame the odds and reached the end zone for the first time as a professional football player. Pearsall caught a pass from quarterback Brock Purdy deep over the middle, and then won a footrace to the left pylon for a 46-yard score,” Sports Spectrum reported.

During Sunday’s match-up against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he wore eye black under his eyes in the shape of a cross.
After Pearsall made his return to the NFL on Oct. 20, he told the media the incident brought him closer to the Lord.
“It meant everything [to be out there],” Pearsall said, according to ESPN. “Obviously, all the adversity I just went through these past months, it was really good to go out there with my guys again.”
“Obviously, having that presence of God with me through those moments,” he added, “there was a lot of signs that He was giving to me throughout that time…I just felt like it was scripted for me.”
