5 On-Screen Daddies We Love!

By Movieguide® Editorial Staff

Happy Father’s Day to all the daddies out there! Below is a list of awesome on-screen daddies who love and protect their families.

  1. Adam Mitchell, COURAGEOUS

In COURAGEOUS, Alex Kendrick’s character Adam Mitchell is a family man who inspires a group of police officers to make a written commitment to be the best fathers they can be.

According to Movieguide®’s review, “Fathers and mothers will be deeply moved by COURAGEOUS. The acting, dialogue and direction is the best yet in the Kendrick brothers’ movies. Some younger moviegoers may not get it entirely, but it’s a powerful movie that calls for revival of fatherhood.”

  1. Marlin, FINDING NEMO

What do you do when you don’t know what to do? “Just keep swimming…”

FINDING NEMO is a prime example of a father’s pursuit for his child. Marlin and his new friend Dory search the great barrier reef to find Nemo, a clownfish who got picked up by fishermen.

FINDING NEMO reminds viewers of the Parable of the Lost Sheep. Like Marlin, God chases after the one, no matter the circumstances.

  1. Graham Staines, THE LEAST OF THESE: THE GRAHAM STAINES STORY

Picture this… You’re worlds away from your relatives and serving the poor and orphans in India when opposition meets you at every corner.

That’s the real-life story of Graham Staines and his family.

Stephen Baldwin stars as Staines, who later dies alongside his sons at the hands of radical Muslims.

Before his untimely death, audiences sees Staines’ steadfast commitment to the Gospel of Christ as he serves others as he would himself.

Staines exemplifies Proverbs 22:26 and left a last legacy for all fathers who set a beautiful example of a devoted life to Christ.

  1. Lee Abbott, A QUIET PLACE

In the 2018 movie A QUIET PLACE, Lee Abbott (John Krasinski) protects his family at all costs, and ultimately sacrifices his life for their safety.

Although A QUIET PLACE falls under the “thriller” category and is for more mature audiences, Krasinki made the movie as a love letter for his children.

“If anything, it was about, you know, going into the dark and, and taking a chance when all hope looked lost, you take, you know, you fight for what’s most important to you,” Krasinski told Esquire. “Again, my whole metaphor was solely about parenthood.”

  1. Thomas Hill, OVERCOMER

Thomas Hill was an absent father for his daughter’s early years but a radical change from God helped him see the error of his ways.

Thomas’s character arc is one that many might relate to and shows that Jesus is capable of changing even the hardest of hearts.

“For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.” – 1 Peter 2:25
