A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE Sets Franchise Record

Paramount’s A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE had a successful opening weekend, taking the No. 2 spot at the box office.
It earned $53 million during its debut, setting a franchise record.
“A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE’s 3-day bests the U.S./Canada start of the 2018 movie ($50.2M) and the 2020 sequel at $47.5M. For actress Lupita Nyong’o, not counting her ensemble movies of STAR WARS and BLACK PANTHER, DAY ONE’s opening reps her second-best solo career start at the domestic box office after Jordan Peele’s Us ($71.1M),” Deadline reported.
The movie follows “A woman named Sam [who] finds herself trapped in New York City during the early stages of an invasion by alien creatures with ultra-sensitive hearing.”
DAY ONE’S success doesn’t come as a surprise. Movieguide® praised its “Strong Christian, redemptive worldview with very strong moral elements.” Part of the review reads:
A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE tells a scary, thrilling and poignant story. It has the scary thrills the first two QUIET PLACE movies had. Like them, it has lots of heart. In fact, the movie has one of the most powerfully poignant endings in recent years. DAY ONE also has strong moral, redemptive themes of compassion and sacrifice. At one point Sam and Eric find sanctuary in a Christian cathedral. A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE is very scary, but without being bloody, and has brief foul language. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for teenagers and adults.
A QUIET PLACE saw stars John Krasinski and Emily Blunt nominated for Movieguide®’s Grace Prize. A QUIET PLACE PART II earned Movieguide®’s Faith & Freedom Award for Movies.
“We did do some research and we listened to our fans, and this is a bit of an origin story with fresh casting, a new setting in New York City, which ramped up the scope and scale of this picture, which all conspired to what is a vibrant chapter in the A QUIET PLACE franchise,” Paramount Domestic Distribution Boss Chris Aronson said of DAY ONE.
