Alexis Bledel starred in the 2002 movie adaptation of Tuck Everlasting, and she is returning to the story to narrate the novel’s 50th anniversary audiobook.
“It has been an amazing experience to revisit this world,” Bledel told PEOPLE. “Tuck Everlasting holds a special place in my heart, having played Winnie Foster in the film many years ago.”
“Narrating this beloved story for its 50th anniversary edition is a wonderful journey back into a tale that challenges us to think about what it truly means to live a meaningful life,” Bledel added.
Released in 1975, Tuck Everlasting follows a young woman who stumbles upon the Tuck family after exploring the woods near her house. The Tuck family hides a terrible secret, as the spring they live near offers eternal life to anyone who drinks of it – which all of the Tuck family has. Though the story is beloved, the movie suffers from a pagan worldview, rather than emphasizing the Christian faith. A portion of Movieguide®’s review reads:
The acting is excellent and the direction impeccable, but TUCK EVERLASTING fails to capitalize fully on the potential moral, redemptive elements in its story. Hence, it is not as satisfying artistically or spiritually as it could have been. The movie also contains some pagan worldview elements that require caution
The audiobook will be produced by MacMillan audio, and to celebrate the 50th anniversary, the story will also receive a brand new graphic novel from Woodman Maynard to help even more people engage with it. The audiobook will be available starting Sept. 2.

“[Tuck Everlasting is] a timeless piece that continues to inspire, and I’m thrilled to bring this magical narrative to life for a new generation of listeners,” Bledel said.
Tuck Everlasting is not the only novel Bledel has helped transform into another media format. She was also one of the stars of THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS as well as starring in the TV adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale. Bledel also starred in the early 2000s hit GILMORE GIRLS.
The audiobook is one of Bledel’s first acting gigs after stepping away from Hollywood in 2022. The move was surprising to fans as THE HANDMAID’S TALE was still going strong, and she was one of the lead roles.
“After much thought, I felt I had to step away from THE HANDMAID’S TALE at this time,” she told Variety in 2022, per US Weekly. “I am forever grateful to [executive producer] Bruce Miller for writing such truthful and resonant scenes for Emily, and to Hulu, MGM, the cast and crew for their support.”
Though it remains to be seen if she will fully return to acting or not, it is obvious that Tuck Everlasting means a lot to Bledel as it is her first project in nearly three years.
