AMC to Implement Tiered Ticket Pricing Based on Seat Location

AMC Theatres recently announced Sightline at AMC, a ticket pricing initiative that will change the cost of seats depending on their location in the theater.
“Sightline at AMC more closely aligns AMC’s seat pricing approach to that of many other entertainment venues, offering experience-based pricing and another way for moviegoers to find value at the movies,” said Eliot Hamlisch, executive vice president and CMO at AMC Theatres.
“While every seat at AMC delivers and amazing moviegoing experience, we know there are some moviegoers who prioritize their specific seat and others who prioritize value moviegoing. Sightline at AMC accommodates both sentiments to help ensure that our guests have more control over their experience, so that every trip to AMC is a great one,” he added.
Sightline at AMC will include three different pricing options: standard, value and premium.
Standard Sightline will include most seats in the theater. The cost of these seats will be consistent with current ticket pricing at AMC theaters.
Value Sightline will provide moviegoers with a reduced ticket price for less favorable seats, which include “seats in the front row of the auditorium, as well as select ADA seats in each auditorium.” The reduced pricing for these seats will only be available to AMC Stubs members, including the free tier membership.
Preferred Sightline will include the most sought-after seats, such as those in the middle of the auditorium. These seats will be priced at a premium over standard seats. AMC Stubs A-List members will be able to reserve these premium seats at no additional cost.
“Theaters that offer Sightline at AMC are expected to provide a detailed seat map that outlines each seating option during the ticket purchase process online, on the AMC app and at the box office,” Variety reports. “Sightline at AMC is applied to all showtimes that begin after 4 P.M. at participating locations.”
However, the pricing initiative will not apply on Discount Tuesdays, when all tickets are discounted to $5.
Sightline at AMC will undergo a trial run starting this Friday at select AMC locations in New York City, Chicago and Kansas City before being expanded to all domestic AMC locations by the end of 2023.
