Amy Grant Out of the Hospital Following Bike Accident

By Movieguide® Contributor

Christian singer Amy Grant will take a break from her August concert schedule to recover from a bike accident last Wednesday.

“Amy Grant was in an accident after hitting a pothole while riding her bicycle with a friend (note: she was wearing a helmet). Following a brief hospitalization where she was treated for her injuries, doctors have ordered additional recovery time at home for Amy, where she is now resting comfortably,” her team posted on the singer’s Instagram page.

This comes two years after the singer underwent open heart surgery for PAPVR, a rare condition Grant was born with but only discovered later in life, as Movieguide® previously reported.

While Grant is stable, she has rescheduled her August concerts in Knoxville, Chattanooga, Johnson City, and Wilmington to April and June 2023 due to “doctor’s orders.”

“All tickets will be honored at the new performance dates. There are no other changes to her touring schedule at this time,” the Instagram post added.

PEOPLE reports that Grant was taken to Vanderbilt Hospital, where she was treated for cuts and abrasions. She stayed at the hospital for a few days after the accident for observation and treatment and has since returned home.

The accident comes only a few days after Grant was named one of five recipients of this year’s Kennedy Center Honors.

She will join singer Gladys Knight, actor George Clooney, Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Tania León, and the rock band U2 at the Kennedy Center’s Opera House on December 4 for the event.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine ever receiving this prestigious Kennedy Center Honors,” the singer said. “Through the years, I’ve watched so many of my heroes serenaded by colleagues and fellow artists, always moved by the ability of music and film to bring us together and to see the best in each other.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Amy Grant’s Kennedy Center Honor:

Amy Grant and Gladys Knight will be able to add Kennedy Center Honorees to  their accolades along with rock band U2, actor and philanthropist George Clooney  and Pulitzer Prize winner Tania León.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine ever receiving this prestigious  Kennedy Center Honors,” Amy Grant said in response to the news.

The six-time grammy winner continued, “I cannot wait to  celebrate with my fellow Honorees, friends, and family. Thank you for widening  the circle to include all of us.”

Grant even made her way into movies with the Netflix movie A WEEK AWAY.

Movieguide® Awards Gala Performer Gladys Knight, aka the “Empress of Soul” also shared her excitement for being an  honoree stating:

“I’m humbled beyond words to be included amongst this prestigious group of individuals, both past and present. You could never have told  me as a young girl starting my career that I would be honored on a  stage such as this, with artists and humanitarians such as these—it  just wouldn’t have seemed possible. It would have been the dream of  all dreams. I have been blessed with so much in my life and this  certainly stands with those achievements at the top of that list.”

The seven-time Grammy winner shared how her mother was an example of faith, even praying with her and her other band members of The Pips.
