Christian and country artist Anne Wilson said a last-minute illness during the release of her latest album was a reminder that God is in control.
“I just kept believing, ‘God’s got me,’” Wilson said during an appearance on “The Matthew West Podcast.”
Wilson lost her voice during the release week for Rebel, her latest album, which could have created a stressful situation for the singer. However, she explained that “because I do this for Jesus, it does take a weight off because I remind myself I’m doing this for His glory.”
“I think when you can remind yourself of why you do it, it takes the pressure off, and for me, it was just reminding myself that I’m doing it for Him, so He clearly has a plan,” she continued, adding that she just kept thinking, “God, I guess you’re reminding me that you’re in control here and that I don’t have the reins over my life.”
Wilson ended up having to cancel a series of hometown shows due to her illness, which was “really hard for me ‘cause I hate letting people down.”
“I felt so bad, but I think it was just — I really feel like God reminded me during that, and through all those moments, that my audience is Him and I’m here to please Him and not people,” she said.
Wilson concluded, “[Those moments] remind me that there’s nothing more amazing than being a child of God…God reminds me [that] the sweetest thing is being His.”
The singer is currently celebrating Rebel’s anniversary with a new edition of the album.

“I am so excited to release this special edition of Rebel on the one year anniversary of this album that means so much to me,” Wilson said in a statement about the release. “Since releasing Rebel, life has been such a whirlwind filled with one incredible moment after another. Seeing these songs go from the writing room to the studio, from the studio to the radio and finally to the stage has brought me so much joy!”
Wilson added, “I hope these songs have encouraged people to remember that sometimes being a rebel ain’t such a bad thing. After all, the one I follow was a rebel like me!”
Wilson is also preparing to open for country superstar Morgan Wallen on his “I’m The Problem” tour.
“Morgan Wallen is by far my favorite artist of all time, so opening for him is an honor,” she told Holler, adding that Wallen’s music helped inspire her while she worked on Rebel.
“His honest lyrics, met with the incredible production, inspired me to dig deep into my record and the creation of it,” Wilson explained.
Wilson continues to reach new heights in her music career, but the artist keeps giving the glory to God, taking comfort in the knowledge that it’s all part of His plan.
