Anne Wilson has said for years that she always wanted to be an astronaut before she became a singer, and she got to have a little bit of that space dream fulfilled when she sang the national anthem at NASA last week.
“What an incredible honor it was to sing the National Anthem at the Artemis II launch!!! This moment feels so full circle for me,” the singer wrote on social media. “There was a time in my life when I dreamed of becoming an astronaut and working for @NASA.”
“After walking through deep loss in my family, my path changed in ways I never expected. And yet, standing here now, getting to be a small part of something so historic, I’m just overwhelmed by God’s goodness. He writes stories far greater than we could ever imagine, and I’m so grateful to be living in His 🥹🤍🚀🌙”
Wilson even wrote a song about her old dream called “Stars.”
Some of the lyrics are:
Thought I’d be an astronaut, land on the moon
But life happened fast and I grew up too soon

I learned that gravity don’t mess around
You can’t touch the sky with your feet on the ground
But
Dreamers never stop dreaming
Believers keep on believing
When the world keeps on dragging down this dreamer’s heart
I look up and remember
I was still made for the stars
Capitol Records reported that Wilson visited NASA when she was in eighth grade and had a plan to go to college and meet astronaut training requirements.
She told Crosswalk Headlines that her dreams were huge, but God changed her plans when her brother unexpectedly died in 2017. When she sang at his funeral, she knew that she had to keep using her voice.
She recalled of his death, “It was such a dark moment in my life. I remember feeling so hopeless and devastated and broken. I was so incredibly overwhelmed with emotions that I literally couldn’t even cry.”
But then she heard God’s voice.
He said, “‘Anne, are you going to trust Me?’ I turned around right in that room, and I spoke to Jesus, and I said, ‘Jesus, I trust You,’” she said. “And then God spoke again and said, ‘I’m going to give you what you need to push through this tragedy.’”
Wilson remembered, “All of a sudden, the weight of death was lifted fully off my shoulders, and I felt like I could breathe. I had this assurance that God was going to pull me through this tragedy to the other side.”
When she got on the stage to sing at Jacob’s funeral, she heard God speak again.
“God said, ‘This is what I’m calling you to do. I’m calling you to praise and worship my name,’” Wilson shared. “Up until that point, I had never dreamed of being a singer or singing for God.”
Wilson just kicked off her Stars tour last month which runs through mid-May.
