Looking for God’s ‘Fingerprints All Around You’ Could Change Everything

Former pro surfer Bethany Hamilton reminded her Instagram followers to slow down and look for God’s fingerprints in their lives.

“In the small and simple things, God whispers His love. The song of a bird, the glow of the sun, the detail in a flower. He is near,” she wrote in an Instagram caption. “‘Be still, and know that I am God.’ Psalm 46:10.”

Hamilton added, “This week, I hope you get to slow down, look closer, and see His fingerprints all around you!!”

She often shares her faith, whether in social media posts or through interviews and articles.

In an interview with The Surfer’s Bible, Hamilton said, “I believe that God gives us passions, talents and gifts for a reason. I don’t think we should ignore or set aside these aspects of ourselves. Instead, we should allow God to shine through our strengths and gifts.”

“Surfing, while being my gift and talent, has also been a potential idol or substitute for God in my life,” she continued. “It’s been a journey of finding the balance and asking myself whether God or surfing is at the center of my life.”

Hamilton explained that, once she became a mother, she had to “learn to wean myself off the dependence on surfing for my happiness and contentment, especially since I naturally couldn’t surf as much.”

“If you had asked me 12 years ago if I would be okay with surfing taking a backseat, I probably wouldn’t have been,” she said. “But it’s amazing how God gives us gifts along the way, and in my case, my children have become my most precious gifts. They are teaching me selflessness and prioritizing them above my love for the ocean. However, they are also motivating me to teach them to surf and share the love of the ocean with them, so we can enjoy it together. It’s a blessing to pass down this love and passion to your kids, and it’s truly a special experience.”

Hamilton, who has four kids, told PEOPLE that “becoming a mom is something I always knew was going to be an amazing part of my life.”

“I can say without of doubt that God is my strength and His gift of these beautiful children and my family,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “Life and the many pains may beat us down…The loss. The hardships. In the what could have been or should have been.”

Hamilton concluded, “But we can only trust that God is with us and for our greater good, even in the pain. It can be so hard to trust…But that is faith. To believe that Gods way is the best way even in the pain.”

Hamilton’s recent post is a reminder to look for God’s hand in everything, big and small.
