For journalist Billy Hallowell, asking questions about the spiritual world led to him creating documentaries that shares real stories about the supernatural.
“And as far as the project, I have to tell you, miracles, obviously, as a Christian, I’ve always believed in them, but I think it was a real challenge for me,” Hallowell told Movieguide®. “Kind of going in and from a journalistic perspective of, ‘Okay, we have all these stories. We know that they’re really compelling. We vetted them beforehand. We’re going to travel the country, tell these stories. We’re not going to tell people what to think, but we’re going to provide the evidence and then show people through reenactments what that looked like.’ That for me really challenged whether or not I actually believe the things I said I believed. I had to sit back and be like, ‘Okay, I say I believe in miracles. Do I actually?’”
Hallowell explained that as he studied and learned about miracles, it transformed his faith “in a very positive way.”
“Even reconciling things like, hey, if I don’t see a miracle, what does that mean about God, and what does that mean? And I really came away with such a deeper understanding of God and His love for us,” he said. “So, it was really just an amazing experience.”

Hallowell went on to explain the power of God that he witnessed through miracle testimonies.
“God can do it. He has done it. And the stories we show in the film, He does it in most of them, not in all of them, but at the same time believing that, but then recognizing that God has a plan, and it’s sovereign, and we don’t always understand it.”
He added, “And even Lazarus died again, right? He was raised from the dead. The most incredible miracle. He died again. We, for all of us, miracles eventually run out, if we get them. And so that basically means God has a plan we have to rest in and have peace in. And so those are two things that are hard to hold together.”
Originally, Hallowell and his creators planned on making a TV series about their findings. But they quickly realized they couldn’t tell the stories they wanted to in 30 minutes. So they set out to make what will likely be a three-part movie series.
INVESTIGATING THE SUPERNATURAL: MIRACLES, which debuted last year and won Movieguide®’s Aletheia: Documentary Award, is the first. INVESTIGATING THE SUPERNATURAL: ANGELS AND DEMONS is the second. It released on March 16.
“God just opened door after door, you know, of people’s incredible stories. And so we here we are. Now it’s 2026 and we’ve been working on this for three years,” Hallowell told Movieguide®.
Movieguide® gave ANGELS AND DEMON a +1 content score, saying it “combines true narrative with inserts from experts on the subjects being discussed. Despite the topic being the supernatural world, the movie’s approach follows logic and the scientific method to explain what can be understood by the supernatural by using reason.”
Movieguide® adds, “The topic is Christian in worldview, but the topics are incredibly heavy and sometimes too scary or younger children. That said, ANGELS & DEMONS is an excellent, well-made documentary combining education and entertainment in beautiful harmony.”
INVESTIGATING THE SUPERNATURAL: ANGELS AND DEMONS is now available to stream.
