BLACK PANTHER Co-Star Letitia Wright Honors Chadwick Boseman With Touching Tribute

By Cooper Dowd, Staff Writer

Actress Letitia Wright shared a heartfelt tribute to her BLACK PANTHER co-star and on-screen brother Chadwick Boseman after his death.

Wright played Shuri, the younger sister of T’Challa/Black Panther, and posted a tribute entitled “For my brother” on Instagram. The video contains nature scenes while Wright recites a poem for the late actor.

“I didn’t know this is what I was waking up to,” Wright said after hearing of Boseman’s death. “When you walked into a room, there was calm. You always moved with grace and ease. Every time I saw you, the world would be a better place.”

Wright is an outspoken Christian and says the love that she showed toward Boseman came from God.

“God told me that you are my brother and I am to love you as such. And I always did and I always will,” Wright said.

Wright, 26, confessed that she did not know about Boseman’s battle with stage IV colon cancer. But Wright honored Boseman’s hard work in the four years he secretly struggled with his health.

“I wish I got to say goodbye,” Wright said in her tribute. “I messaged you a couple of times but I thought you were just busy. I didn’t know you were dealing with so much. But against all odds, you remained focused on fulfilling your purpose with the time handed to you.”

“But now, my heart is broken,” Wright continued. “Searching for old messages of exchange, cards filled with your handwriting and memories of you holding my hand as if it was for eternity.”

Wright also added that despite the deep pain she feels after Boseman’s loss, faith in God can “heal all wounds.”

Wright’s video tribute segues to photos and videos of the BLACK PANTHER cast laughing on set.

“I thought we had more time and many more years to come. For more laughter and moments of me picking on you on set,” Wright said. “This hurts.”

“You’re forever in my heart,” she concluded.

The breakout actress often posts scripture on her Instagram and recently published a Bible reading plan entitled “Overcoming.” Wright believes that living out her faith and overcoming tribulations comes by reading the Bible and trusting in Jesus.

Movieguide® recently reported on Wright’s faith in God:

“In the midst of darkness. It’s important to share the LIGHT. 💡” said Wright. “Honoured to share the scriptures that help me to overcome times of tribulation and hardship with @youversion bible App 🙏🏾 Praying for our world daily 🙏🏾 Be blessed. Hope this bible plan encourages you during this time. Love you all 💜”

YouVersion announced Wright’s plan on June 2, 2020.

In YouVersion’s promo video, Wright shared how God brought her out of darkness and into His light.

“[My friend] was just talking to me he’s just like, ‘God told me to call you and tell you that you’re not in a good place. I can tell you about Jesus and His spirit [that] set me free so I’m just sharing it with you.’ And in that sentence was like the interest just clicked and he gave me Matthew 6:33.”

The glitz and the glam of fame and professional success didn’t satisfy Wright, but the Bible did.

“The gospels are just my favorite,” said Wright. “Like literally all of those you know amazing red letters are just you know so impactful and just brought life to me.”
