Worship Artist Couldn’t Be More Grateful to Make Grand Ole Opry Debut
By Movieguide® Contributor
Brandon Lake had a childhood dream come true, premiering a new song and performing an epic finale with Jelly Roll while making his Grand Ole Opry debut.
“I’ve never wanted to throw up so bad in my life,” Lake joked with the crowd while on stage. “Nothing will prepare you for this, which speaks to what an incredible honor it is to step into this circle.”
“There’s a beautiful thing happening right now,” the singer later added. “I grew up pretty country and pretty rednecks and there’s this blurring of the lines between Christian music and country music that I think God’s doing right now for the sake of giving people hope.”
Lake’s success in the Christian music space is nothing short of a miracle. After facing addiction and abuse growing up, he had no ambition for a music career, especially Christian music. However, a radical encounter with God transformed his heart and soul, giving him a freedom that changed his life.

He began to feel a call to write worship music to express this amazing change in his life, and soon after, his music career took off. He has since become a mainstay in the Christian music space with hits like “Gratitude” and “Graves into Gardens.” He has also headlined multiple tours, working alongside other major artists like Phil Wickham. All of this culminated in his Opry debut, and Lake couldn’t help but express the gratitude he was feeling.
“I don’t know that there’s words for how I feel outside of words like gratitude and thankfulness,” Lake told The Tennessean. “Overwhelming. That’s probably the word. And it’s just mind blowing.”
Lake’s performance was a treat for the audience as he shared a brand new song, “Daddy’s DNA,” which will be a part of his next album. Lake also ended the night with his latest single “Hard Fought Hallelujah,” and country star Jelly Roll joined him.
“Whenever I got to be a part of this song, I knew it was going to be one of the most special songs of my entire life,” Jelly Roll told the audience when he got on stage. “I believe in these little things called God winks and I was leaving the Grand Ole Opry last night and I was listening to 97.9, the Big 98 here in Nashville, I heard ‘Hard Fought Hallelujah’ on country radio. It just showed God will always use his most unlikely messenger.”
