Candace Cameron Bure Reflects on Prayerful Living: ‘Just Talking to God’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Candace Cameron Bure, Sheila Walsh and Greg Laurie discuss the importance of prayer and how to get into the habit of constant communication with the Lord.

“God doesn’t always answer prayers the way we want Him to, but it’s so important [to pray] because it not only connects us to Him but it’s also saying, ‘Lord, I am dependent upon you no matter what happens.’ But if you reach out to Him and you pray and you ask and you’ll be amazed,” Bure said. “If you don’t have a prayerful life or you don’t know how to pray, it’s just talking to God.”

“Prayer is my immediate connection to God,” she told Faithwire. “That’s how I talk to Him and communicate with Him.”

While most Christians understand that prayer is important, it can feel awkward to start praying throughout the day. When someone has grown up only saying a prayer before meals and maybe before bed, praying at other times can be intimidating.

“I think God listens to our hearts, and that’s what I’ve discovered; prayer is this ongoing conversation with the One who knows us best and loves us most,” Walsh said.

She believes that this understanding of prayer makes it easier to approach a prayerful life and keep in communication with the Lord.

“You simply start where you are,” she told CBN. “God is way more interested in our presence than in our perfection.”

“Think about talking to your best friend. Think about talking to your father, and I’m assuming you have a good relationship with your father. Think of warmth and love and your father delighting and hearing from you,” Laurie said. “God doesn’t care about the verbiage. He looks on the heart. [Prayer] is just moving your heart toward God; be real with God. God knows all the latest slang terminology, you don’t have to speak in King James English; just say, ‘Lord, this is awkward for me, but I come to you.’”

“It’s important to verbalize our prayers and I just say start doing it and the more you do it the easier it will get and you have a father who loves to hear from you and is looking forward to it,” Laurie continued.

The Lord calls us to prayer not for his own sake but for ours. He has chosen to allow us to communicate with Him whenever we want, and he delights in hearing from us.

“Did you know that God has chosen prayer as the fragrance for heaven?” Walsh said. “You read about in the Psalms and Revelation that the angels hold these great giant bowls of incense before the Lord and they’re the prayers of His people.”

Movieguide® previously reported on prayer:

Candace Cameron Bure explained why prayer is such a powerful tool and how it keeps us connected to God by reminding us that He is with us and for us.

“Praying should never be a last resort ever. It should be the start,” Bure told her brother Kirk Cameron on TAKEAWAYS. “Get on your knees, get on your face, pray wherever you’re standing or seated all the time.”

“God doesn’t always answer prayers the way we want Him to, but [prayer] is so important because it not only connects us to Him but it’s also just saying, ‘Lord, I am dependent upon you no matter what happens,’” she continued. “But you reach out to Him and you pray and you ask.”
