Candace Cameron Bure Tweaks Traditions For a Very COVID Christmas

By Movieguide® Staff

Candace Cameron Bure is dropping some Christmas traditions as she prepares for a different kind of celebration in light of the pandemic.

“Sometimes it’s like, ‘Oh, I have to bake this and decorate that, and I want it all to be perfect, and I have to find the perfect gifts for people,’ and it can become consuming and stressful,” she tells Woman’s Day. “So, we’ve simplified Christmas. … I’m just grateful for my family, that we’re all as close as we are, and I don’t ever want to take that for granted.”

But Bure knows the real heart of Christmas has nothing to do with decorations and baking.

“[Jesus] is the greatest gift of all, and that’s why we give gifts to one another,” she says. “So, I just love to focus on that.”

Women’s Day reports that while Bure often hosts as many as 40 people in her home on Christmas, this year it will be just her immediate family and maybe her parents. Everyone else will join by Zoom.

While celebrating her own family traditions, Bure continues to give back to those in need.

“The need is even greater this year, but so is the spirit of giving,” Bure said in a video message on Instagram. Bure is a Salvation Army ambassador and encourages her family to be involved in serving others, as well.

“How can we use either our platform, our time, our resources, our money? How can we be an encouragement to other people?” she says. “Charity work has been a big part of my life, and I’ve always tried to have my kids participate in that, and they do that now as adults.”

Bure also recently shared that she started the book of Luke to prepare her heart for the Advent season. As she continued reading Luke, she felt prompted to share chapter 6 on her Instagram page.

“I am reading in the book of Luke, and it was just too good not to share it with you all,” Bure said.

“I think a lot of us are good people but still never hold up to the standard of of God and His righteousness and need to be reminded of our of our own self righteousness,” Bure said.
