Country singer and former AMERICAN IDOL winner Carrie Underwood can’t wait to return to the show that kicked off her incredible career.

“‘Then’ as a contestant vs. ‘Now’ as a judge 20 years later! Counting down the days as we’re one month away from the March 9 season premiere of @americanidol on @abc,” Underwood posted on Instagram along with two photos — one from her AMERICAN IDOL audition and one from her time as a judge.

Her fans shared their excitement.

“I will be watching EVERY episode for the first time in 15 years,” one person wrote. Another said, “THIS is going to be an EPIC season!” “What a full circle moment! Can’t wait,” another wrote.

“This upcoming season marks 20 years since Carrie won America’s hearts on IDOL and launched her successful multi-GRAMMY Award-winning career,” Craig Erwich, Disney Television Group President, said when announcing Underwood as former judge Katy Perry’s replacement. “As a former Idol and dynamic musical force, she brings a remarkably unique perspective to one of the most popular shows on television. This is a full-circle moment both for the show and audiences at home who have been tuning in for over two decades. Welcome home, Carrie.”

Underwood wants her feedback to contestants to be “very honest but hopefully constructive and encouraging,” she told GOOD MORNING AMERICA.

“I went from nobody knowing my name to tens of millions of people watching the show,” she said of her journey because of AMERICAN IDOL. “I’m proud of everything that I was able to accomplish on the show and I’m so proud of everything that I’ve accomplished since.”

Underwood’s most recent accomplishment came when she had the honor of singing at President Trump’s inauguration. When the accompanying music didn’t play, Underwood told the production team “I can just sing it” and wowed America with her a cappella version of “America the Beautiful.”
