Quarterback Carson Wentz delivered for his childhood team, the Minnesota Vikings, on Sunday — the first game he started for them.
According to Sports Spectrum, Wentz played a terrific game as he “posted a 129.8 passer rating (second-best in his 10-year career) with 173 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions as he led the Vikings to a dominant 48-10 victory against the Cincinnati Bengals. The win moved Minnesota to 2-1 and into a first-place tie with the Green Bay Packers atop the NFC North.”
After the game, Wentz couldn’t help but give God the glory.
“Yesterday hit a little different!” the quarterback wrote on Instagram. “Starting under center for my childhood team and having my whole crew there supporting me was such a blast and a blessing! Just another reminder that God’s got a plan and is the author of our story!
“Awesome team win on top of that. Such a fun and special group and glad to be a part of it! On to the next!” Wentz added.

Towards the end of 2017-2018 season, Wentz tore his ACL, which has since kept him from starting in an NFL game.
“There was definitely a lot of emotions I had to channel running out there,” he told the media after the game. “It’s been a while since getting a chance to [start], but then obviously being in the purple and gold means a little extra something to me personally. I definitely had a lot of emotions but was able to channel them, go out there and have a lot of fun with those guys.”
“For me to come out and just get that breath of fresh air with just my family reminded me to put my brain and my mind in that perspective of there’s so much more to life than just this football game,” he added. “That kind of helps me have a comfort when I go out and play with a little sense of peace that’s a little different.”
Wentz played so well on Sunday that the Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell already announced that he will start for Minnesota in Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dublin, Ireland.
Wentz can’t help but always give credit to God for all the opportunities.
“My relationship with Jesus has meant everything to me,” he said last season at the Super Bowl with Sports Spectrum. “… [The Super Bowl] is definitely a platform I feel God’s given me, and other guys, to make sure that people use it to spread His name — to make Him famous. Again, life’s not all about us.”
