Comedian Chonda Pierce sheds light on healing from emotional pain in the new documentary, HE CALLS ME DAUGHTER.

“My dad never told me that I was pretty,” says one woman in the film.

Another says, “My dad never told me that I was special or important. He didn’t know me.”

“I don’t remember a church my dad ever pastored at that he didn’t have a girlfriend,” Pierce says.

Part of the synopsis reads, “HE CALLS ME DAUGHTER is for women who have felt unseen, unsupported, or unsure of their worth — and who long for love that feels safe. This honest exploration of father-daughter relationships reveals the lasting impact they can have on a woman’s life. Through intimate, first-person stories, viewers follow women as they begin to name the pain they’ve carried for years: father wound.”

The film follows the Kendrick Brothers’ success in SHOW ME THE FATHER.

Director Rick Altizer, who helped with SHOW ME THE FATHER, told CBN News, “The Spirit just made it clear that I am to make this film for women, that I’m to do this, and I’m going, ‘But I’m a dude. Why would you call me to do this?’ And I, I’ve again heard the Holy Spirit just say, ‘I’ve given you everything you need, just do it.'”

One of the voices in the movie is Lynsi Snyder, who owns In-N-Out Burger.

“My dad, as soon as he was out of my life, there was this gaping wound,” says Snyder.

The Christian Post reported that 18.2 million US children live without a biological, step or adoptive father in their home.

Actress BJ Arnett added, “All I wanted was for my daddy, was for my daddy to say that I was his.”

“I made this film for a Christian woman who goes to church, she’s on the worship team, she goes to the women’s conferences, she gets the books, the curriculum books, she goes to the Bible study, she does all these things, and the pain’s still there,” Altizer said.

The movie sheds a light on how some women feel like they can’t connect to God as a father. Viewers can obtain a six week study guide to continue healing from that.

“Now we’ve named it. Now let’s talk about it. Let’s get some help,” Altizer said. “Let’s go to counseling, let’s discuss this and start seeing how I need to now start seeing God as my perfect Heavenly Father who loves me perfectly, not like my earthly father.”

Pierce added, “A heavenly father changes everything. I needed to remember that today.”

The movie will be in select theaters Mar 17-18.
