Everyone’s favorite lazy lasagna eating cat will prowl back onto the big screen with GARFIELD 2, star Chris Pratt announced in a funny video posted to Instagram.
The video begins with Pratt announcing, “Pizza’s here!” as he walks to the door to receive a pizza delivery. When he opens the box, he sees a cheese pizza with the words “Garfield 2” written on it with sauce. “Oh wait, who ordered this?” he asks before he looks at the camera and says, “You did!”
One fan in the comment section responded, “Looks good no matter how you slice it.” Another person joked, “Shoulda been lasagna, but ok.”
Deadline reported that Pratt has already signed with Alcon Entertainment to voice in the sequel, but writers and directors for the film are yet to be announced. Producers include John Cohen, Steven P. Wegner and co-founders CEOs of Alcon Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.
Mark Dindal directed the first GARFIELD movie, which featured the voices of Samuel L. Jackson, Hannah Winningham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillén and Snoop Dogg alongside Pratt.
Alcon has also gained the rights to Garfield from the character’s creator, Jim Davis, who will be an executive producer for the sequel.

Davis created Garfield after years of cartooning the cats and dogs who lived on his childhood farm. When he grew up, he got a job at comic strip company Tumbleweeds and soon realized that a comic about a house cat didn’t exist. So he created Garfield, named after his grandfather, which was released in June of 1978.
In a 1994 interview with CBS News, Davis said of his character, “People like Garfield because he relieves their guilt. We live in a time where we’re made to feel guilty about overeating and oversleeping and not exercising. And Garfield not only does that but defends his right to do that. He’s happy with himself.” Of course, this isn’t to say those habits are okay, but it reminds us that we aren’t alone in our struggles.
The first movie, titled THE GARFIELD MOVIE, released in 2024. Movieguide®’s review reads, “The best part of THE GARFIELD MOVIE is the father and son relationship. At the end, it is deeply emotive and brings tears. It also has some very funny, exciting moments. THE GARFIELD MOVIE is never boring. It also has many heartwarming emotional moments and a very strong moral worldview.”
However, Movieguide® notes that there are some “scary moments and jeopardy” that are “a little too intense.”
Stay tuned as further information is released about the GARFIELD sequel, including cast and a release date.
