Christian Rapper Hulvey Wants to Connect Fans ‘With God’

Christian rapper Hulvey says his upcoming album is an effort to “represent my God better.”

“This album is a reflection on what He’s done for me and the thankfulness. It’s very bright but also really reflective,” he told Relevant Magazine. “It felt like God was giving me something fresh. He put on my heart, ‘I’m going to tell the story.’ As I listen back, I realize God really did tell the story.”

He explained that, with his new album and growing fame, he realized he has a new responsibility in his life to represent himself and his faith positively.

“The responsibility I have over more people in my world has changed,” Hulvey said. “I have a responsibility to the fans to provide music that they can connect with God on and that brings them hope. They may not always agree with everything I do, but I always want it to be pure-hearted.”

He continued, “Since 2021, the responsibility has grown. Everything the team and I are doing is naturally bigger in the world’s eyes, and I strive to make it tailored to who God made me to be. When we do these big shows, I want people to see what God’s put in me, not a version of somebody else. So, everything is different right now, and that’s okay.”

Hulvey said this responsibility has led him to change the way he goes through everyday life.

“Now people really are paying attention,” he said. “If I go in the Chick-fil-A line, they’re going to see how I act. I wrote a song about it because I had a bad day one day, and they saw that. I had to be honest with myself and realize I need to represent my God and my family better.”

One of the singles off the album, “Altar,” was recently remixed with vocals from pop and R&B singer Ciara.

“I was already a big fan of ‘Altar’ before Hulvey asked me to join him,” she told PEOPLE. “I was honestly obsessed with this song. I used it for my Easter post and Hulvey’s team reached out shortly after!”

Hulvey is also preparing to head out on tour with fellow worship artists Brandon Lake and Phil Wickham.

“BIG thank you to @brandonlake and @philwickham for bringing me out,” he wrote on Instagram. “I know God has beautiful things in store.”

However, all of these exciting things happening in his musical career pale in comparison to what Hulvey’s got going on in his personal life — he and his wife are expecting their second child!

“I think this new baby boy is what I’m most excited about,” he said. “The other stuff is awesome, but me and my wife, we already have one son and just the joy that we get from that. It’s just like, I can’t wait to have that multiple times too. So for me, I’m really looking forward to that.”
