Los Angeles Clippers guard Kris Dunn thanks God for his NBA career.

“First thing, I want to credit God. You know, without God and Jesus in my life, none of this would be possible, and then my support system at home,” Dunn said in an on-court interview after the Clippers played the Warriors on March 2, per Christhlete.

“But honestly, you know, the league is filled with so much talent. And you know, guys coming from college, guys coming from overseas, sometimes your trajectory just goes a little different, as mine did, and you’ve got to play a role,” the guard continued. “And you know, I found my niche in the game, and it’s being a defensive player, but more importantly, being a connector.”

“I tell people this all the time: there are three things that get you to be in the league. One, be good; two, be a great teammate; and three, be available,” he emphasized.

Dunn has experienced his fair share of adversity throughout his career.

He was drafted as the fifth overall pick in the 2016 draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. But despite being a fifth overall pick, he was only in Minnesota for a year before getting traded to the Chicago Bulls, where he played for the next three years.

After that, the athlete spent a few years in “Atlanta (missing 62 games in 2020-21 due to injuries) and Portland (14 games) and a season with the Agua Caliente Clippers in the G League…Dunn wasn’t seen as a reliable contributor, and he started the 2022-23 season again in the G League, this time with the Capital City Go-Go’s,” The Orange County Register reported.

After that, Dunn knew he had to find his niche in the NBA. He was offered a 10-day contract by the Utah Jazz that evolved into a multi-year deal in 2022. However, adversity struck again, and Dunn was traded to the Clippers, where he finally found his fit.

“I always believed,” Dunn told The Orange County Register. “When I was in the G League, I took the time to really develop my jump shot, but more so just show teams that I’m back healthy, show teams I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get back in the league.

“God is real. I always kept the faith, and my family was super excited. But we knew there was more work to be done. I just didn’t want to get the call up and get sent back down,” Dunn added.

Dunn scored 16 points with seven rebounds and seven assists in the Clippers’ 114-101 win over the Warriors. The guard knows that without his faith in God, he wouldn’t have the position he enjoys today.
