Colts LB Records Career High, But ‘Without Jesus, Nothing Matters’

Indianapolis Colts linebacker Grant Stuard made his first professional start on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, and he absolutely shined.

“He recorded a whopping 19 tackles (11 solo), the most of any player in a single NFL game so far this season. The special teams ace’s previous career-high in tackles was two, and he had yet to make a tackle this season,” Sports Spectrum reported.

He credits his impact on the field to his dedication to hard work, something he learned from the Bible.

“In the Old Testament, Ecclesiastes 9:10, it says everything your hand does, to do it with your full might, like everything that you put your hand to, give everything you have to it because there’s no work or toil in the grave, where everybody’s headed,” Stuard said after the game. “So I just try to embrace that and just give my best, 100 percent, (and) get one percent better every day.”

“I really don’t even have to think about giving great effort no more,” he added.

Another factor that led to Stuard’s stellar performance is his energy and commitment to his teammates.

“I always kind of figure out that if I’m flying around, making plays, exerting energy, it gives me more energy,” the linebacker said. “Just pedal to the metal every play is how I do it.”

“We hold each other to a really high standard, and that starts with Z (Zaire Franklin),” Stuard said later on in the press conference. “There’s plays in practice, even plays in the game – there was a play in the game where I was like, ‘It’s not my responsibility to make,’ and Z looked at me and he was like, ‘Yo, you can make that!’ And I was like ‘Alright, bet! I gotta make it!’ Just that player leadership has been huge for me. It’s definitely raised my standard, raised my expectations of myself because of what my teammates are expecting of me.”
