Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader Trusted God With This Big Dream
By Movieguide® Contributor
Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Reece Weaver knows that when God puts something on your heart, He’ll be faithful to follow through — she knows this from personal experience.
On an episode of Sadie Robertson Huff’s “Whoa That’s Good” podcast, Weaver shared that she always knew she wanted to dance as a career until she visited the Dallas Cowboys stadium. There, she felt God call her to be a cheerleader for the team.
“I always looked at this dream, and I was like ‘Okay, Lord, you laid this on my heart. This is really massive, and I know you are way bigger. How are we going to get there? Because this is insane,’” she recalled. “So, I always had to realize like if this is something that the Lord has laid on my heart, obviously it’s on purpose for a purpose, and He’s going to use me in that in whatever way, whatever He has planned, so I always just had to cling to that.”
Weaver auditioned for the team during a crazy time in her life.
“Leading up to auditions, I had recently just got engaged, just graduated, submitted my first round of audition video submissions, and I was like, ‘Okay, well, it’s out of my hands now. Lord, this is all you, and whatever happens, may you be glorified throughout it all,’” she told Huff.
When Weaver made it through the first round of video auditions, she prayed that she would be able to try out in person for round two.
“My prayer was, I just want to go in person. If I, you know, experienced rejection, at least I know I could get there and I was there in person. I could do it without a camera in front of me. I could do it face to face. So, the Lord was so faithful, and I got to the in-person auditions,” she said. “And from there I had this peace that no matter what happened, if I fell flat on my face or anything, I know that that my prayer has been answered. Whatever that looked like, whatever the Lord was going to do, he was going to do his thing. And so, from there I had peace.”
Weaver made it past her second audition and soon after became a cheerleader but admitted that she still had anxiety about the situation. Huff chimed in, “You know how people always hit you with the like, ‘Well God says do not be afraid.’ And I’m like yes, He does, but also think about this every time God came to someone and said that it was because that person was probably freaking out.”
Weaver’s time as a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader was featured on the AMERICA’S SWEETHEARTS documentary, and she uses her platform to publicly share her faith.
Her Instagram bio features Matthew 5:16, which says, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Deseret News reports that she “talks openly about her Christian faith during the documentary, noting that she wants her cheerleading to bring fans closer to God.”
“I pray that whoever watches this one day sees [God] and not me,” she told producers.
