GREEN AND GOLD Star Believes Farming Builds ‘American Values’

COACH star Craig T. Nelson believes farming builds “American values.”

“They have this great sense of humor, and they’re really humbled by what they have to go through,” Nelson told Fox News of farmers. “I mean, look, seven days a week, come on, and you’re up, and you’re milking, or you’re doing and you’re in the barn, you’re doing the mucking, and you’re dealing with other animals.”

“Also, at the same time, sickness, death, and all of the factors that go into feeding our country and trying to make a living in it,” he continued, “and the margins that they’re living on are so small, and so you identify with the struggle and the beauty of that.”

“Within that, there is a humor, and there’s a reverence, and there’s a sense of community. And, you know, come on. I mean American values, traditional. Spend a couple of weeks on the farm, and you know you’ll find out quickly where your heart lies,” he explained.

Farming plays into Nelson’s latest role as Buck in GREEN AND GOLD, a struggling Wisconsin farmer who “wagers everything on a high-stakes Championship bet, while his granddaughter’s musical ambitions could be their ticket to a new beginning,” per IMDB.

The movie is based on a true story and was made in partnership with NFL Films and the Green Bay Packers, who are featured in the film, according to US Weekly.

“At this stage in my life, a story that has heart like this, and tells the truth…that is what I was seeking,” Nelson explained. “And that truth is what I wanted to impart to my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.”

GREEN AND GOLD earned a -1 content rating from Movieguide®. The review praises its “Strong Christian, moral worldview [that] stresses family, nature, hope, and faith.”

GREEN AND GOLD is an inspiring, heartfelt, well-made family drama. It features excellent performances by Craig T. Nelson and Madison Lawlor as the grandfather and granddaughter. Their chemistry together is fun and exciting to watch. GREEN AND GOLD has a strong Christian, morally uplifting worldview. Many scenes show the family attending church, and two scenes show Buck praying. The movie also stresses helping others, without expecting anything in return. However, GREEN AND GOLD has brief violent scenes and some foul language and gambling rebuked. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children.
