Dave and Jenny Marrs revealed that they originally told HGTV they did not want to host FIXER TO FABULOUS because they did not want to take time away from their kids.
“We said no at the time because we really were busy with our business, with our kids,” Jenny said.
“We’d just come through a pretty tough season of adoption, and we were just kind of coming out of the weeds where life was getting back to normal,” Dave added. “We had a good business. We didn’t really have a desire to grow a lot more, [or to] be on television. So yeah, we just said no originally.”

The Marrses, however, eventually decided to say yes, with the caveat that they would still have time to spend with their kids. What ended up happening was they added a whole bunch of members to their family through the show in the form of the crew.
“I’m grateful for the bizarre path my life took five years ago when we said yes to #fixertofabulous because our family grew exponentially with this team of people,” Jenny wrote in 2022. “When you watch the show, just know that all of these hilarious, hard-working, passionate and ridiculously talented humans are behind the camera making magic happen.”
Meanwhile, the couple created the show hoping it would help their charity efforts, and it has enabled them to do so and continue to partner with their friends in Zimbabwe.
“When Dave and I first agreed to film a pilot episode for HGTV back in 2017, we did so as an act of faith – ultimately hoping that someone would watch and want to learn more about our non-profit work in partnership with our dear Zimbabwean friends, John and Orpah,” Jenny previously shared. “Coincidentally, we found out that the pilot was green-lit while we were in South Africa as a family, just after returning from Zimbabwe where we dreamt about and prayed for big things with our friends there.”
Jenny has since explained how the profits from family’s blueberry farm goes toward their ministry in Zimbabwe where they help educate at-risk teens.
“[The Berry Farm] funds an agricultural and vocational skills training program for orphaned and at-risk teens in rural Zimbabwe,” she said. “This village and these kids are near and dear to our family, and we are blown away by the fact that our little farm tucked away here in the Ozarks is a part of bridging the gap for kids we love across the sea to transition successfully into adulthood.”
Praise the Lord for the way He works through FIXER TO FABULOUS and gives the Marrses a platform so that they can impact others around the world. Thank goodness they said yes to the show and have been able to manage their time commitments so they can still be available for their kids.
