Dave Coulier is in remission! After battling two forms of cancers, the FULL HOUSE actor just revealed that he is currently cancer free.

“It’s been a roller-coaster ride for sure,” Coulier said in a recent discussion with GMA. “I’m in remission with both cancers. And what a journey this has been.”

Last March, he announced he was in remission from Non-Hodgkin lymphoma but shared in December that he was undergoing radiation for tongue cancer.

According to US Weekly, the actor is officially in remission four months following his second cancer diagnosis.

“The second cancer is not related to the first, but it helped. It helped because I was going in for a checkup for the lymphoma, and got a PET scan, and it revealed that something was in my throat,” he explained. “And they said, ‘let’s take a look at this.’ Had robotic surgery removed part of my tongue as part of the biopsy.”

He added, “Had I not gone in for that PET scan and gotten an early detection, it saved my life.”

Coulier was diagnosed with stage 1 oropharynx cancer. The Cleveland Clinic describes this as “a rare cancer that affects your oropharynx (the middle section of your throat). HPV infection, tobacco and alcohol use cause this disease. Symptoms include persistent sore throat, difficulty swallowing and lumps in your neck.”

Despite his recent health struggles, Coulier was determined to not let his diagnoses steal his joy.

“It can steal parts of your life away from you, psychologically, emotionally and certainly physically, and I wasn’t going to allow cancer to do that, you know? I was going to laugh my way through it and keep the people that I love close to me and that that helps talk a little bit more about your perspective,” he said.

Through his struggles, his former FULL HOUSE co-star and friend John Stamos has been a calming presence to cheer him up.

“John flew into Michigan, came and visited us and made me laugh,” Coulier revealed. “He’s my brother. He wore a bald cap, and when he came around the corner dressed like that, I dropped to the floor laughing.”

When all is said and done, Coulier carries a valuable lesson his mom taught him: “But you know what my mom always said, make your mess, your message.”

Coulier’s story is one that not only offers hope but perspective. Even when things are difficult, it is important to keep our joy and spend time with those we love.
