Another WONDER WOMAN movie is on the way, according to DC Studios co-head and SUPERMAN director James Gunn.
“We’re working on WONDER WOMAN. WONDER WOMAN’s being written right now,” he told Entertainment Weekly, confirming that the titular role has not been cast yet.
Gunn clarified that this new movie is a “separate thing” from the already-announced PARADISE LOST, an HBO Max series that is set on the island Themyscira, Wonder Woman’s home.
In an early comment about the show, Gunn described it as “GAME OF THRONES with Westeros but with all the inhabitants of Paradise Island,” per Deadline.
The GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY director also discussed comments Warner Bros. Discovery head David Zaslav made in an earnings call earlier this year, telling investors Superman, Batman, Supergirl and Wonder Woman are “crucial characters” to the DC cinematic universe Gunn and DC Studios co-head Peter Safran are building.
“I think that’s accurate, actually,” Gunn said. “I think that he got that from something I said. I wouldn’t say only those four characters, but I would say that those four characters are incredibly important to us. Right now, I feel great about where two of those characters are, and then we’re dealing with the other two.”
Gunn’s announcement of another WONDER WOMAN movie were a surprise to some fans who were still waiting on a third installment of the Gal Gadot-led superhero movies. WONDER WOMAN and WONDER WOMAN 1984 were both directed by Patty Jenkins. Both Gadot and Jenkins have made it clear they were not asked to contribute to the new iteration of WONDER WOMAN.
“I was invited to a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and what they told me, and I’m quoting: ‘You’re in the best hands. We’re going to develop WONDER WOMAN 3 with you. [We] love you as Wonder Woman — you’ve got nothing to worry about,’” Gadot said during a 2023 press junket. “So time will tell.”
When DC Studios was contacted for comment, they told Deadline WONDER WOMAN 3 was not in the works at that time.
Jenkins was more direct, posting a statement to X (formerly Twitter), that read, “When there started being backlash about WW3 not happening, the attractive clickbait false story that it was me who killed it or walked away started to spread. This simply is not true.”

“I never walked away. I was open to considering anything asked of me. It was my understanding there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time,” she continued. “DC is obviously buried in changes they are having to make, so I understand these decisions are difficult right now.”
