Deaf Missions’ JESUS Will ‘Communicate Gospel’ To Deaf Community

By Movieguide® Contributor

Joseph D. Josselyn, producer and director of JESUS: A DEAF MISSIONS FILM, is excited to “effectively communicate the Gospel to deaf people through media.”

“This has been an exciting journey,” Josselyn told Movieguide®. “We are so excited for the Deaf community to have this movie with which they can have a natural connection. Our cast was deaf. There’s no barriers in this movie….as deaf filmmakers, this was our heart being put into this.”

JESUS: A DEAF MISSIONS FILM is entirely in American Sign Language, with subtitles included.

“Witness His miracles, His transformative power, and His challenges to the religious elite in a time of high tension under Roman rule in Judea,” a description of the movie reads. “The Jews were anticipating a Messiah, but Jesus was not what they expected. What the religious leaders orchestrated to be Jesus’ end instead changed the world forever. Immerse yourself in Jesus’ love as He offers hope, forgiveness, and eternal life.”

Josselyn continued, “As a Deaf filmmaker, I wanted this high-quality product given to the Deaf community portraying the life of Jesus.”

“Deaf Missions’ goal for many years has been to effectively communicate the Gospel to deaf people through media,” he said. “We’ve been doing it for over 50 years.”

Deaf Missions’ website explains, “68 out of 70 million Deaf people do not know Jesus…Roughly 98% of the worldwide population of Deaf people have never encountered the real Jesus. What is the number one issue Deaf people face when it comes to knowing Jesus? The answer boils down to two words: communication barriers.”

The organization breaks down these barriers through their ASL content, as well as their efforts to build communities that encourage Deaf people to build a relationship with Jesus.

When asked what he hopes viewers take away from the movie, Josselyn shared, “I would want them to know Jesus is love. That Jesus wants to offer forgiveness through His work on the cross to everyone…He wants a relationship with every Deaf person.”

Movieguide® previously reported on the movie:

A brand-new Jesus-centered movie seeks to share the gospel people with who have not experienced it before.

Deaf Missions’ upcoming movie JESUS: A DEAF MISSIONS FILM portrays the “story of Jesus and his ministry on Earth” entirely in American Sign Language.

“I’m excited to see how the Deaf audience responds to this film,” said director Joseph D. Josselyn in a press release. “They can finally watch a movie about Jesus without any language barriers and become fully immersed in it with their heart language!”

“It was incredibly important to us to partner with Deaf actors and Deaf professionals to bring this story to life for the Deaf audience,” said executive producer and CEO of Deaf Missions Chad Entinger. “The Deaf community is one of the largest unreached people groups in the world, so we are praying that God will use this movie to ignite a movement of healing and heart change in the Deaf community.”

JESUS: A DEAF MISSIONS FILM is now playing in select theaters.
