Although BLUE BLOODS ended last December after 14 seasons and despite the wishes of both fans and stars, a new spinoff is in the works, and it may leave fans wondering: will we see more of the characters we know and love?
Donnie Wahlberg answered that question in a discussion with Fox News Digital.
“Now it’s just Danny going to this new world. But, you know, I can’t say a lot about it, but I could say, you know, if he’s a Reagan, it’ll never be just Dan. He’ll always be a Reagan phone call away,” Wahlberg said of his character’s new life in BOSTON BLUE.
The new spinoff will follow Wahlberg as detective Danny Reagan as he moves from New York City to Boston. Entertainment Weekly shared, “He’ll be paired with a detective named Lena Peters, described in a CBS press release as ‘the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.’”
Walhberg also hinted that some of the Reagan traditions will continue in the new series.
“You know, the traditions that the Reagans have, Danny wouldn’t abandon those traditions. Something might happen to move him away from New York, but he’s always going to be a Reagan, right?” the actor continued.
Wahlberg expressed his sadness about the end of BLUE BLOODS but said once he gave the spinoff a chance, he sees its potential.
“Once I started to like what BLUE was, started to see the opportunity that BOSTON BLUE was, that it’s really a chance for us to carry on the tradition and the legacy of the show,” Wahlberg told Fox News.
He added, “I know how important it is to the viewers, because I share, you know, what BLUE BLOODS meant. It meant a lot to me as well. So I know, you know, there’s a lot of excitement and enthusiasm about it.”
Since the spinoff takes place in Boston instead of New York, fans have wondered if Danny’s interests will change. Wahlberg explained that, “Yes, he’ll be a New York fan, but he’ll also still be a Reagan, and he’ll still carry on the Reagan traditions and legacies.”
Wahlberg celebrated BOSTON BLUE when CBS announced the show back in March.
Wahlberg posted a CBS announcement about the new show to his Instagram. In the caption, he said,

“So excited to carry on the tradition, to share so many surprises, to answer some unanswered questions and to welcome all of you — to #BostonBlue! The next chapter in the #BlueBloods legacy begins. I can’t wait. See you CBS fall! 💙❤️” he wrote on Instagram.
Fans in the comment section expressed excitement. “YAY!!!!!! This makes me so happy!!! We were just saying how much we miss Blue Bloods!!!! 🥳🥳🥳” one user said. Another person added, “Name a better duo…Danny Reagan & Boston…wait there is no better! 💙💛 Congratulations!”
An exact release date has not been announced, but fans expect to see BOSTON BLUE sometime this fall.
